The VAT is of course charged and then reclaimed, by the business if they are registered

Emailed them a week or so ago and not received a reply - so have found a Dutch Haulier who I have used a number of years ago.
I also rang Richard Long a couple of weeks ago and they said it was too difficult to give a guide price with so many variations in the current market re importing so I will not be chasing them a third time!

You will need to get an EORI number to import.
And richard long is right, There are a number of new regs came in 1 Jan this year causing delays and unknown costs.
And the person you buy it from will have to issue country of origin certification.
We have had continental hauliers we have used for 20 years not willing to give a price to come to uk at the moment.
You do have to keep chasing richard long to get an answer, but he has been by far best at getting loads trouble free through customs.

If one load isn’t worth his hassle it’s unlikely he would ever get another one so that makes no sense.
What I mean is if it’s a one off to do for a one off customer with all the paperwork that has to be done. His time is better spent (this profit) moving his non one off machines. The paperwork will add alone about an hour to each booking. Then you have to get your wagon to a place your aren’t used to, to a site you don’t know will

You are missing the point. I come to you as a farm contractor. Can you come plough my paddock. It only needs ploughing once. I understand you have 30 customers you plough for each year.
But my paddock is very important.

Oh I understand your point, I cannot speak for the man you are mentioning but I’d doubt if he would be that contrary.
In your view hauliers wouldn’t want part loads? Some loads only two or three stops will have it ready to go. Your view of the world seems very negative, most folks in that business are game and have a can do attitude - not a I can’t be arsed one.
