Fresh concrete feeezing?

Funny how we all think.
What you have on your hands is a potential major catastrophe in my book...

I can’t leave the house (kids) I don’t have the resources, the site is not on the farm, independent folk are employed to quality control this. It’s been reported to the MD who himself made the calls to the subbies. I’ve got photos on what’s app of the job including screen shot of forecast. A substantial bond is being held back to cover such eventualities.

Not sure what else I can do?

I came on here to evaluate WCS which I now have.

You are of course talking about the horses 😂

Sounds to me like you’ve got the situation well in hand!!

Oh, and the concrete job sounds under control too!

Sorry, not implying criticism, you can only do what you can do.
My tendency to micro manage is probably equally bad in its own way:).

Lived to become a legend…!

I’d pay to find the answer out now. Every time someone posts in that thread I get all excited - sad eh?!

I am up there most days but at that scale it’s impossible to see it all. Seeing what professional gangs do I’m quite proud of the few slabs I’ve poured now!

We still have a few months before that section needs to be used so I’m a bit more relaxed than the slabs that went down last week that were due to go down in September....

Like the dead horse thread, this frozen concrete thread should bow over soon enough, nothing to worry about. Unless of course the OP is the site controller at Hinkley C and someone has given the concrete teams the AOK to pour...

No Nuclear reactors here fortunately, age mellows ones soul a bit, maybe?

I assume the "quilt" is a concrete blanket, two layers of plastic with some thin filler in between? the concrete covered will be fine. The bigger issue is how long they leave the blanket on, and other fresh concrete, even a week old, that is not covered.

Concrete is poured much colder than that here, as long as it's covered enough it's fine. I disagree that any damage will be visible in five days. It might take till next winter when that section spalls off but the rest is fine.

I would certainly leave the quilt on for a few days , but we dont get anything like the frosts you will get. I have only seen frost get into the very top , but is very annoying if it needs replacing because you need a smooth finish. It will certainly shorten the life of the concrete drastically too.

Bit of a follow up for those interested or future folk wanting answers.

I was told frost damage isn apparent within 28 days. I was told core samples could be done to check how good it was.

Told them I wasn’t really buying it even if the Concrere firm released the concrete in the first place.

MD saw a video of the slab and sacked his blokes on the spot. It’s being ripped up and re done. A bloody waste but standards have been restored.

Wow! That’s gonna work out an expensive job for someone overall!

My contractor said he stopped counting at 26k. Im angry, it’s such a waste. Others don’t seem to bat an eyelid, they clearly don’t have farming blood in them.

No wonder firms go down in construction so easily

I’m jolly impressed at your contractor for standing it all.

Must be frustrating all round though….always better to just do it once and do it right.
