Would I drive a normal quad over, Probably Yes,
Would I expect to take over, or tell someone to take over that bridge 10 persons on or in a Gator and trailer , definitely No !!
Exactly this. What you do on your own land, as an individual, is entirely up to you but as soon as other people are involved then you need to assess the risks appropriately.

Lot of beaters on lot of shoots are not employed. Come because they enjoy it.
Might get a tip.
Then they get the pigeon shooting and lamping fun once season over.
local small agricultural supplier, told me he has employers liability insurance, although he has no employees. He said, when a lorry arrives customers often lend a hand to unload, but he said, if one of them had an accident he would be liable as an employer. I have no idea if he is right, but that was what he told me.

Feel its is wrong to make a quick judgement from a keyboard at this stage, a respectful silence more appropriate than censure.
Hopefully when the investigation has finished it is made public so everyone can see what happened and what was done wrong and people can learn from it, instead of it being swept under the table with a "tragic accident" sticker on it.

Will be interesting to see who is getting charged and what with.

I was wondering that, I'm not familiar with the UK H&S rules.
The chain of responsibility rules changed here some years ago. Now I think the driver, gamekeeper, shoot organiser and land owner would all be charged - that could be all one person of course.
The land owner couldn't just pass on the responsibility to the game keeper for example and just walk away from it. Likewise the game keeper couldn't just say, I told the boss and they refused to do anything to make it safe.

What @Ffermer Bach is saying is 100% correct. In the eyes of the law anyone not being paid but assisting in any small way will be regarded as an Employee in law so Employers Liability insurance must be in place.
There are also HSE guidelines in place re shoot trailers.
