Looking for a new 3m trailered mower conditioner. It would be replacing a 20 year old krone, cutting around 200 acres a year. Currently considering either a Claas, krone or Kuhn but would be interested on people’s thoughts on other makes too?

No experience of the ones you mention but if i was buying now id go pottinger. Pottinger 10ft used 30% less diesel than equivalent vicon/kverneland on the same work. Ran a JD 1355 previously and that was good too.

We have a Krone can’t fault it bought it for 2013 but it did replace an ancient tarrup 307 so was a big step forward

i know theres a million ways to skin a cat but im not sure how you are managing to justify a 10ft trail mower over 200 acres, especially with current machinery prices. good luck to you though, cant take it with you, so if you like machinery then why not

I don’t know they last a long time a trailed in particular I think will last double what a mounted will due to even loading on the discs our old tarrup would of been 30 years + when we sold it. I really believe that his mowing could be more cost effective than somebody with 10 times more as it just wears out 10 times faster

That’s fair enough, but in the grand scheme of things mowers aren’t too expensive. If we can make the next mower last 20+ years it wouldn’t be too bad.

What was wrong with them? Not many like water troughs chain harrows or concrete
We didn't encounter any of those things!
They don't follow the ground well because they push the bed. They don't give an even cut because the discs are too big. The oval discs are susceptible to stone damage. The stone guard brackets aren't strong enough, if I remember correctly the local JD dealer got 1 piece brackets made rather than stock genuine. If you lose a stone guard you bend the skid or the back of the bed. The springs and chains that carry the mower aren't strong enough. Swivel heads are weak, although I haven't used the latest type so it might be better. The standard wheels are too small. The mower doesn't lift high enough. They don't follow right behind you, you're always tweaking the transport ram. They're too wide on the road. They don't leave an even sward. They don't spread grass full width. The grouper is only for light crops and will only throw a row beside a row.
We thought all that was just normal until a new Taarup 4032 arrived and it was better than the 1365 in every way.

Oh sound pretty crap then seemed to be a lot about at one time. I was just meaning contractors machines usually get a rough time because people that employ contractors to do their work don’t tend to clear their fields as well as the ones running their own gear

They were probably fine in the 90s with 100hp in front of them or they would do someone who just wanted to mow a few acres of their own and needed something cheap, but they're an old, overrated design.
