There’s an awful lot of Russia very close to China full of all the resources China needs. If I was Putin I would be friends with China. I did the Trans Siberian railway Beijing to Moscow. It’s six days five and half of them through Russia and much of it unoccupied. I reckon Russia should be more worried about China than we should.

They certainly were more worried about the Chinese invading their territory in the past, as there were plans to heavily fortify their frontier and they trained airmobile troops for this very reason. I've read books (mostly by the defector Suvorov) claiming they did make some progress hardening the frontier but I'm not sure it was ever actually done, it would be useful to look at satellite imagery of the area as it would show fortifications easily.

What got the west concerned about the military build up around Ukraine was they have pulled back a lot of troops who are normally stationed on the Chinese border. This indicated it was far more than just sabre rattling

‘There you go Vlad you go sort out NATO and we’ll look after Vladivostok for you…. Honest’.

It was Obama who gave China its wealth and strength with his global economic agenda outsourcing all the job They did at home because of cheap labour in China but that is coming back to haunt them as china's power on the world stage

Yeah, that horrible President Obama did that in whatever alternate universe you inhabit. President Obama did many things, but there is no way any President of the USA could have done that- the US government has minimal control of private enterprise in the USA. Private businesses outsourced those jobs, because they saw money in the move.

I think you really should look at a graph of Chinese growth over the years
It really does appear to peak under a certain GW and start a massive decline when Obama came into power

That stopped a long time ago, it simply wasn't / isn't economically viable to provide a credible conventional deterrent; the 'rumour' is that the Kremlin decided a scorched earth policy via small nuclear strikes was the best option - which makes sense on a lot of grounds.

Hang on... are we talking of the same President Obama who had congressional majorities, and who used them to legislate for the allowing of outsourcing of federal spending to foreign companies - is this the same fellow you are on about? The same fellow, as it happens, who 'negotiated' for tariff control with China, that was vastly to its - China's - favour and against that of the US - or was that a different President Obama?

And, while on the subject, are we talking about the same fellow who fearlessly did SFA while China started pushing it's neighbours and building fake islands? Just asking.
