GMB - Should schools ban meat.

Tbf the meat they feed in most schools is cheap shite and probably foreign cow beef so not a big deal. Cant see muslim schools banning meat etc

Its the principle of it though rather than what or where the meat comes from. Why should the schools have any say on what OUR children eat?

Can you imagine the outrage if someone suggested Schools should ban Gay or Trans children? This is no different imo, it’s still a personal choice being taken away from us.

Schools should be feeding children quality, balanced meals made from real ingredients rather than serving up processed pap of whatever variety.

I suspect that making a big deal of childrens’ diets at a young age (rather than just normalising ‘good food’) stores up an awful lot of problems and can lead to eating disorders. Obesity for one, but also anorexia and bulimia. I sometimes wonder whether there’s a link between young people (particularly girls) that are drawn to a vegan diet and those that develop serious eating disorders.

Maybe GMB just wants some cheap headlines?

Also they can only have taken it off the school lunch menu. They won't be able to ban it in pack lunches.

Probably true but when your child gets 5 hot meals a week for zero cost, most families can’t justify spending money on bread, meat, yoghurts etc for 5 pack lunches a week.

I don’t think there’s any doubt about this is there? Forcibly removing meat from the diet of children who are already being fed badly at home is tantamount to child abuse. For schools to be doing this is scandalous. Teachers are supposed to be educating our children not filling their minds full of media-led anti-information. We are storing up serious health problems and seeing the effects of this every day now. This will increase the speed of the breakdown of our children’s health. We are already sitting on a ticking timebomb of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. In the US it is estimated now that around 70% of the population could be pre-diabetic or diabetic. The US leads, we follow.

Veganism is an eating disorder.

I wonder how this would flow in Rural schools, my daughter goes to a primary school with about 70 pupils, a fair amount of which will be from farming families. I can just see the backlash if they tried this.

I loved your comment, but really it is with profound sadness that I have to agree with you. We could also rephrase the headline to "schools encourage children to give up healthy nutritious food in favour of ultra processed industrial fake meat"
