Generator

Just milking OAD currently so we will milk early instead of 8 am.
we are strawing/ bedding down everything this afternoon rather than tomorrow morning. We will move calves this evening rather than in the morning. Yrlings have 3 days feed in front of them. One wagon will be loaded this evening.
doing everything possible to make tomorrow as simple and safe as possible..
Stay safe everyone

I ran the robots from 3 yesterday afternoon until 7 this morning with mine. To be fair I give it a day every month just to be safe
Out of interest what make of robot, how many, what size generator & roughly how much fuel would you use? We’ve still got quite a wait for a grid connection & questioned a generator but fag packet calculations say we’re better off waiting.

Yes. Generator engine on stop, timing gear cover leaking severely, awaiting another one, radiator core being replaced at the works. Anyone got a spare three legged stool? :ROFLMAO:

We bought a new JCB last year, 115 kva, to run a free range egg house and a single lely robot setup. We were told that both use roughly the same power. Genie is beside the hen house which is about 300m away from robot, but everything seems to work OK.
Had to use the generator to power the hen house until we got the mains cable in, took about 15gal of diesel/24 hours. Never as glad to see an electric cable in my life.

£50 of diesel a day? do you mind me asking how many kWh you use a day? some people are paying 50p per kWh, I wondered if diesel generator would be cheaper

Just 'bought' a standby generator for our pressurised water system. Probably stupidly paid in advance, and the firm went into receivership shortly after, receivers say they have no assets, so bugger it. Energy Generator Sales Ltd.
I expect they will be up and running again in a few weeks under a new name.

My main worry is the the tractor that runs the generator has to face due SW and looks straight out to sea. With 90+ mph gusts how do I get in the cab with loosing the door on a tractor? The puma has a silly 4 post cab with a massive sheet of glass for a door.

I have no generator, so I might be out with a stall and bucket for a few day, always a hundred weened calves that can be turned into the herd worse case😁

Was able to buy red for about 65p so closer to £40. Not sure how many kWh we use to be honest. Biggest problem was that the generator had to run 24/7 to keep computer and alarm system etc running. Haven't had an electric bill since we got connected to the mains but I doubt if it'll be as much as the generator was costing.

We lost the roof from our generator tractor in the first big storm, generator was on for 96 hours or so, new years day power went off again and the generator went pop, new one arrived on Tuesday, engine driven this time.
