Actually I think he can as long as the tank is drained of red and flushed then refilled with white when heading to a non agricultural job ,

Is he purely a agricultural contractor?
Not 100% sure!
I believe he has smaller machines that he uses to dig extension footings.. etc

If it is for agricultural (for an agricultural business), yes he can.

But if a farmer hires a digger in off a hire company to do agricultural work he must use white diesel. So if a contractor comes with a digger that he also uses non agriculturally can he really use it on redIf it is for agricultural (for an agricultural business), yes he can.

My understanding is that as the contractor is being contracted for a non agricultural purpose, even though the customer is an agricultural business, then red diesel should not be used after 1st April.
This is how I read the law, yet we need a piece of land levelled to put up a barn, and turning area, surely thats agricultural?
I think I may have opened up a can of worms here!

I know an agri contractor with a digger it will stay on red.
I know a man who hires out diggers, they are all going onto white and stay on white.

We have this with a small contractor who brings a tractor and trailer in silaging. I always arrange to hire his tractor and pay him to drive it, I presume you could do the same with the digger.

Can someone explain to me why the government have done away with red diesel use in construction, what is the intended aim of this?
Trouble is, a lot of hire agreements specify returning the machine with a full tank.
Can see a lot (Most?) going back with red in.

Because construction uses far more red diesel than ag and making them using white diesel equates to millions or even billions in tax revenue I believe.
