Chatting with my own family over there, and looking at social media and voxpops, I don't believe that at all reflects the feelings of the general public in the ROI.

But take heart, the German public reaction has made their government take unprecedented steps; if enough Irishmen make their feelings felt, your gov't can be made to act appropriately too. (y)
German Government have agreed to ban Russia from Swift ( the payment system ) but only for certain banks and ones that the German's do not use to pay for their gas/oil from Russia and collect payments for anything they have sold Russia! ...

But yes they have agreed to supply Ukraine with a few weapons after coming under a lot of international pressure to do so......

Germany is looking out for NO 1 and that is Germany!

I would be shocked if this bunch of jumped up county councilors will change. I absolutely condemn them.

Good point. Change of plan. I am going to take up residence in the Dorchester. Of course it will have to be a broom cupboard as I am not an Oligarch and cannot afford the room rates. So in that respect have solidarity with the average Russian. Think on that latter point. And ponder!
Makes you think, maybe we should have a TFF bash at an Oligarchs house cos if they’re not there they ain’t coming home for a bit.

I‘ll bring a slab of beer……🍺🍾

Irrespective of the outcome in Ukraine, it has taken a former comedic actor and the people he represents, to show the West how to lead, how to stand up for democracy against Tyranny and not just spout lip service for western democracy. Shows up our esteemed leaders for what they are. Boris may not be your cup of tea but he appears to be steps ahead of the EU in trying to do right by the Ukraine and our Eastern European cousins and not pander to Putin's oligarchs.

Ukraine etc have "enjoyed" rule from Moscow and tasted home rule in a greater community, would you want to live under "occupation"? Something the majority of us cannot even conceive. Putin by his actions has highlighted how a former actor Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proven himself a proper leader and politician that others should aspire too and elevated him to hero. This might be the Ukrainians Thermopylae but they are all heroes.

As someone else said its best to put out a smoldering fire than a blaze. Putin needs to be stopped now not appeased, does no one read history?
History didnt have inter continental ballistic missiles

Europe buys $200m of gas and $300m of oil from Russia per DAY

Not going to risk civil unrest

Apparently HMG have already received letters from various high end London lawyers threaten HMG that any move against the 100 or so Russian billionaires with property &/or financial interests in the U.K. will be illegal and will be fought through the courts

The situation in Ukraine is of course not as clear cut as the western media would have you believe. However, I'm not going to comment as most people don't want to hear it.

Perhaps it would be better to remember the words of the great Carl Sagan

“Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbour life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.”
