Tow chain

Can I advise caution if you are towing something like an HGV in a ditch with a chain. Tow chains are easily damaged around the farm and small nicks can grow to cracks when under load. Lifting chains are inspected frequently to check for cracks and other damage. Tow chains tend to get abused and ignored. There have been very nasty incidents when using chains and large tractors to tow bogged equipment. If the chain breaks, pieces really fly and the driver of the towing tractor is right in the firing line. When marine salvage guys use chains, they clear the decks of people for very good reasons.

Straps are great.. but some jobs require exact lengths. If chain is to be used then you want lorry tie down chain with ideally one grab hook and one safety hook. These chains are cheap as chips from chain suppliers like weldex so keep one for rough jobs and one for lifting. The special types lorries sometimes have a really heavy chain for big plant so if in doubt go for them.
