a load of shite or genuinely worth it? pretty cheap and if it saves/helps one lamb its paid itself. what does everyone else think?

Good colostrum provides all the protection lambs need. Save your money and put it towards your time checking that every lamb suckles in the first four hrs.

Generally pinch some off another ewe, or at last resort some powdered colostrum, we stopped using spectam and kick start a few years ago, done alright since then (*touch wood)

I don’t use anything other than colostrum as a base. I do use those roto-corona calf starter tubes on any lambs that look in need of a boost.

do you get the tubes from MVF or is there somewhere else to get them from ?

We are lucky in that most ewes have plenty of colostrum. Always milk any surplus colostrum off singles and freeze it in100ml batches ready for anything that needs it. Sheep milking kit helps with the milking!

Get them from whichever farm supplies I’m nearest when out and about usually. I do 6 lambs with one calf tube. Handy for triplets and anything that scours or goes a bit weak

I’m told you can get specific “Red line lamb tubes” now but I’ve not seen them stocked anywhere I use yet

Yes, suppose I'm lucky my parents are still keen when it comes to lambing and my brother helps at the busiest time. Kids aren't old enough yet! Keep thinking of getting a vet student in to help but family labour is free

Wonder if you have read the ingredients on these products? I did the other day waiting in the queue at harbro. Basically they're all glucose or some other form of sugar with some vitamins and minerals chucked in. Probably cost about £2 to make but they charge about £16 for a small bottle of their own brand and other brands.
I will stick with a bit of honey in the powdered colostrum, or just a bit of honey and a few drops of mineral drench in some warm water if they need a wee kick to perk up.
