Could anyone recommend a company to contact regarding the above .We chop the rape straw at the moment and I’m thinking maybe we should be using it to heat three houses currently on oil .
Not sure this a viable option as I believe there is no RHi payment available.
But would like to explore my options any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also have a continuous flow grain dryer on LPG but with current prices 🥶 so not sure if anything could be done regarding the grain drying as well.

A large very progressive farm half an hour away has a side business cutting diseased elms in the city and instead of taking them ti a land fill he burns them in a large home made wood burner and has an efficient boiler system that is used to pre heat maize before it hits the dryer. Any excess heat then pre heats the air before the dryer heats it the last bit. Can see no reason why a straw burner couldn’t be used the same way. Various small straw burners used to heat workshops and readily available.

I have a dragon boiler. Runs best on 2 rape bales, smokes for 10mins then clean after. Runs 2 x 100t drying floors, 2 houses and a chook shed. Don't need rhi when energy costs are daft and rape straw is near free. Relatively speaking.

What would a boiler that takes a quadrant that would run three barns and a farmhouse cost to buy and set up would you think?

The 10-15 minutes of smoke from mine can be terrible from mine. Ours is at a low spot so on a damp day smoke just sits or drifts horizontally. Had the neighbours complaining this year

I think it needs more air on start up really.

Mine is just the basic model though

I've got this for sale if it's of any interest. Not put much rape straw through it but the bit I did burned well. RHI would transfer with the boiler.

OSR straw needs a flue scrubber or you will breach the new Environment Act rules.. sadly it wont stack up without RHI which is why people buy logs and coal still.. higher calorific value per tonne you see... Incorporate your OSR straw and by less fert is cheaper agronomic option

You got lots of straw and want heat you need a system.
All costs and what you want to spent and how you want to integrate with existing at minimal price.
Self sufficiency is way forward.

Why are you selling it?

These days, £100k?

Need boiler, flue and mast.
Buffer tank
Pumps and electrics for all of the above.

Then likely a heat exchanger to the secondary side.

Then underground pipes to heat receivers, controls, pumps, then heat emitters.

Then civills.

At current fuel prices it’s still a no brainer but. These prices will come down
