@nosmokenopoke thank you for your reply what type do you have haven’t seen many nor worked them but I grew turnips for grazing twins this year and they have done well so hoping to grow more this year with some for lifting hence looking for auld machine thank you

I’ve screenshotted a machine that’s of the same style. It’s a 3 pt linkage version made by st boswells. Can get it out and get pictures of mine if that’s the type of machine you’re after.

@nosmokenopoke that is the type off machine I had in mind nice and light @spin cycle they were planted on the flat with a Stanhay will be doing the same this spring can any off the turnip growers and harvesters shed any light on the situation. The price off feed next year will be out of my realm I fear .as a new entrant trying to do as much at home as I can spring is the time to reap rewards in the winter .

i think these harvesters are essentially 'hoover' type.....the turnips need to be on a ridge so the harvester riddles the soil and turnips fall onto the conveying mechanism

you'd have to make a ridge then drill with something like this

I'm sure you can lift them with a Boswell harvester if grown on the flat.

There is a cutting disc to cut the roots. Then a larger lifting disc that run at an angle and from memory throws them onto the cart elevator web.

There is also a rotating topper for Shaw's.

We used to grow ours in drills when we used to grow for the cattle. Used to be a fun job when a youngster. Little 4610 on the neep puller.

Will need to do some investigation then I see they are driving with one side in between the rows maybe a prob my smallest tractor is a 6630 with 600’s on
Yes the Boswell type you drive one wheel between the row. As @glasshouse says they were designed for 135 or 4000 size tractors.

If you are growing them on the flat your rows will be quite narrow?

How would growing neeps for cattle stack up now with the high price of barley? We just buy stockfeed tatties and draff to replace some barley.

@KennyO i was thinking the neighbour has a 240 scraper tractor . They would be for grazing in situ with twins after scanning plus silage I have just dosed the twins today I have had on them & v happy with them . I am thinking off lifting some off this years crop with the top kept on for tupping time fed at grass I don’t have the farm anywhere near ready for tupping on just grass . Haulage is the trouble for bought in feed here sw Scotland
