'2 Sisters employs more than 14,000 people in the UK and specialises in poultry and chilled foods.
Its chief executive told the BBC's Today programme that it had already been forced to pay 50% more for chicken it receives from farms.'

Any chook farmers able to confirm that?

Oh yes you are in Europe!
You left the European Union.
And nobody else is insisting on Visas, they've extended the 90 day visa free entry to 3 years.

I suspect if they had taken their energy security a bit more seriously we wouldn't have been in this situation in the first place.
I agree that it was foolish of Germany to depend on gas , particularly from Russia. I have consistently said they should have kept their nuclear program.
However blaming them for Putin invading Ukraine is stretching it.

Not so sure, I think it was a contributing factor towards Putin thinking it might work not that I am claiming Germany are to blame for Putin's actions.

How much of Germany’s gas comes from Ad? Watching YouTube it seems there are some f**king huge ad plants over there and a lot of them

I doubt it would even touch the sides. Ukraine is 2.5times the size of France and is known as the bread basket of Europe.
Ukraine and Russia are responsible for 30% of the entire worlds exportable wheat crop.
The Russian took a look at the state of their wheat coming out of the Winter as stated that it is the worst they have ever known!
So 1 million ha of extra German crops might help Germany’s trade deficit and provide some food for its population, but is pretty insignificant as to the rest of the World.
However, despite being Top Dog of the EU, it does show that Germany is taking its own Food security seriously.
Whereas in the UK, our Government is asleep to the situation and continues to advocate taking land out of food production!
The government isn’t asleep. Just hung over from a post covid party.

Can I make a minor correction? Ukraine is a similar size to France - or at least it was the last time that I was there. According to the World Bank, Ukraine has 413,000 squ kms of arable land compared to 286,000 squ kms in France. But yes you are correct that it is a major exporter of maize, wheat, barley and sunflower. Its ports are also main export routes for grain from Russia and Kazakhstan.
Very strategic for any trade from the eastern block. Not surprising Putin wants it.

I'm not over convinced that if the small amount of greening etc in thus country was allowed to be ploughed up that many would do it anyway ....why do it when the rising costs are still rising when by doing nothing you will get a handsome payout ? ......or have I got it wrong ?

Pretty stark outlook when there are 44million people in 38 countries teetering on the edge of famine and organisations like the WFP seem to be trying to feed them and not there own countries
