Swedes have always been an uderated crop , massive yield and palatable to the end of march , but not a simple crop to grow , they can be simple but things can easily go wrong ,

Only got caught one year with lack of rain butbweather has changed , Swedes are a useless crop without it

Grown on the flat, 20 inch rows. Field plowed 7 inches deep. One pass with a 4m power harrow which was bought for £800. Sown with a 12 row planter which cost me £1100. 5 cwt/acre of boronated fert. One spray of pre emergence weed killer. A cheap enough crop to grow compared to barley, that pile in the photo is from only 3 or 4 acre we've lifted so far.

Are there any decent weed sprays left?
Persevered with them after Treflan went using Butisan but once that went found it a very expensive and not too successful exercise with Soringbok.

I bought some last week , straight off field , one way to sell your farm ,,, soil !!! The land im spreading them in for sheep is benefiting from the beautiful soil that comes with them !

An old single row tanker beet lifter. It's a bit of a slow process but only a one man job. I have an old Grimme tattie harvester too, plan to convert it to lift neeps but I don't know how successful it will be at getting them up without scooping up a lot of stones. We're growing about 40 acre but most of it is grazed off behind electric wire.

We're using Springbock. It works ok if you get it on in the right weather conditions. You're right, Treflan was by far the best thing for the job. We also go through with an inter row hoe when you can still get down the rows without damaging the plants too much.
