Wonder how DEFRA expect to reach every farmer that uses PPP and get them to register by mid June

wonder what the penalty will be for those who don’t register in time……. Not able to buy or use PPP???

I only found out about this new requirement from this thread… heard nothing from NFU, CLA, land agent or agronomist.

I wonder what the objective is ?
To Get a benchmark of how much PPP is used and then strangle its use over time by reducing quotas ?

Probably hoping people don't register in time so the baseline level of pesticide use is set low and reduced down from there!

We have not had a government that is so hostile to production agriculture for over a century. Any farmer who votes Conservative in the next election is dafter than a turkey voting for Christmas and also voting that the main meal must be based on a large poultry bird that begins with T!

Regrettably NRoSO is there to demonstrate spray operators CPD.

Spray operator CPD is in legislation, which there would be many ways to demonstrate to meet the legal requirement. However as RT require NRoSO and won't accept any other way of CPD being demonstrated, so we are stuck with NRoSO as long as RT require it.

This new registration seems to be more about collecting data on quantities of pesticide used and chemical store locations. Brand spanking new shiny gold plated red tape!
I didn't know CPD was in legislation. So operators not in RT should be doing some sort of CPD?

I guess that could be something as simple as reading magazines, going to talks, attending sprayer test, etc.

This isn't an April Fool.

If you are professionally applying plant protection products in agriculture or amenity, you will need to register by 22 June 2022. This is a new legal requirement, regardless of size of your business. The requirement is governed by the Official Controls (Plant Protection Products) Regulations 2020 (OCR) and failure to register is breaking the law. This legal requirement is being backed up by increased inspections and will be enforced.

This reduction of industry "red tape" is going swimmingly well!

So...

If I did not happen to see this thread title here on TFF, how the hell would I even know about this??

Nothing come through to here, from anyone...

It's this...
EU legislation.....

Hmmm, thought one of the wonders promised by Brexit was a bonfire of EU and other unnecessary red tape

I may have slightly over egged it with using the word legislation. It is in the code of practice for PPPs and if there was ever a problem you would need to prove you had followed the code of practice to stand any chance of getting off the hook.
It states:

Once you have the appropriate certificate of competence you do not need to renew that certificate in the future. But you should make sure you keep your skills, knowledge and training up to date. You should always have the latest information. You may need to develop further technical knowledge or practical skills as technology changes. This is called continuing professional development (CPD). Trade associations, the NPTC, the BPCA and other vocational organisations will be able to help you with this. Remember that everyone who works with pesticides must make sure that they protect the health of people, other creatures and plants, protect the environment, and avoid polluting water.
You should keep a record of all the training you receive. It is the easiest way for you to prove that you have the necessary training, knowledge and skills. Also, some contracts and agreements may make it a condition that pesticides are only applied by certificated operators.

Had a conversation with Mrs Bg a few weeks ago, I have always voted as it’s a very important right we have. I live in one of the safest conservative constituencies with a useless mp. As it stands I am fairly sure nobody will get a vote from me next time, none of them deserve it.

Good question, is there ever anyone at NRoSO to ask? This was flagged up by National Association of Ag Contractors to members, whose operators you would all expect to be NRoSO registered? You'd also have expected it to be covered off by Red Tractor, but nothing surprises me anymore?!?
…….enforcement of Regulation (EU)……..
so what’s happened to “take back control” and all that b/s ??

Bizarrely enough I think you've got to have Excel & the ODS file they refer you to is corrupt & I can't open it.

Bureaucracy at it's seamless best!

Same here on the Document file. Not very "Open" is it....

If it won't open as a pdf or doc file, WTF do they bother...?

Shades of the early development of the digitisation of Govt claim websites, when the developers seemed to forget that not everyone is accessing the site with a mega fast Office intranet.
