Carrs Billington rant

I dropped my nearly new molasses IBC off at Carrs on Tuesday for a refill as I have done since they took over their site in Brecon and I had done so for around 34 years with the previous merchant on that site before. Went to pick it up today and was told that they, "Can no longer refill IBC's because of health and safety." No further explanation could be extracted from the chap in the stores.
I didn't realise that molasses in an IBC could be so dangerous. 🙄

"It's elf an safety mate" which when translated into English means I am a lazy barsteward and I am doing every thing I can to avoid doing any work and f8uck the customer because they do matter.
To really confuse him ask to see the risk assesment for that job and then take all your business elsewhere as they are idiots.

I went down to the recycling centre as I wanted some half tonne bags for seed corn. No can do. Elf n Safety. Nothing wrong with them. The waste in this country in the name of health and safety is unbelievable.
when I lived in Denmark, the local recycling depot had a section where you put things that you didn't want, however they were too good to throw out, so others who visited the depot could take them, none of this can't take anything from here because of health and safety.

I think we as a country are run bureaucrats and QUANGOs, example getting visa's for Afghan refugees before the fall of Kabul, our civil servants only worked 9 til 5, so they had a nice work/life ballance!

Worlds gone mad, you cant walk around a machinery dealers yard now without a high viz jacket on, let alone go in a scrap, roofing firms yards. Fuel company said they will not fill barrels/ ibc's etc but some drivers will and some won't. H&S has gone to far and is crippling this country.
I don't think it is Health & Safety as such, it is our, stupid British idea of copper plating all the regulations, and making them far more onerous than they need to be. I remember at work, I used to dread when a manager would say "it would be good practice to....." as I knew they would be looking at the rules we had to comply with, and then adding to them to be on the safe side (usually making things unworkable). We as a country aren't a country of shopkeepers, rather a county of bureaucrats and if I was going to pick one character from the TV to represent the UK it would be air raid warden Hodges from Dad's Army unfortunately! That's why in Little Britain "computer say's no" had such a resonance with everyone watching.
