Going back to the Mokka there's a 1.7 diesel which was fitted to loads of models and and then a 1.6. Vauxhall dealer advised us to go for petrol if on short runs so wife's on her second 1.4 turbo. 140 hp and been no trouble at all. Love it.
Ye I would of had the 1.4 petrol very good owner reviews but we've ended up with a petrol 1.5 ford kuga an it's a nice little car I would say the same size as a mokka just hope it's as reliable!

They are toothed belts oil lubricated, not in a bath of oil.
The Honda CVH belt is in the bottom of the sump, see pic (blade left, flywheel right). This one had a bent valve which broke the rocker but the belt was still good.

Can you show us a picture of the actual machine and how this all works as I'm still confused.
The actual machine has gone to the melting pot! Imagine this crankshaft being vertical with a nasty blade on the bottom. The shiny bit is the main bearing then the timing pulley (flooded with oil), then the crank pin, the second main bearing, then a taper for the flywheel. So the timing belt is at the bottom of the sump, hence always covered in oil.
FYI, the CVH engine is of fixed head design with a crank-case split at 45 degrees and a work of art!

Why go to the supermarket and sit in the car while wife does shop?
well lets list it
1 watch the young yummy mummies
2 watching young yummy mummies park mega SUV in average supermarket car park space
3 watch aged pensioner try to park in that tight space two YMMs have left between their mega SUVs despite the fact the rest of the car park is empty apart from me.
4 best of all watch that YMM parking her Aston at the back of the car park 😂
todays offering of good parking what you can't see is that they have actually hit the post as well. I suspect they have not fully recovered from last night but it is now 8.30;)

Could just be a victim of lockdown parked-up syndrome. Hell of a lot of cars have had to get new batteries from going totally flat last year
Ye I think so it's also its original battery so if there were a problem that would of been swapped before now ud hope anyway

I know 2 local proper practical mechanics and one is a trained engineer. They both reckon the 1l Eco boost is a poor engine design. As said above the oil service intervals are too long and critical to use correct grade and spec. Even if these things are adhered to there is a tendency to gradual disintegration of the oil immersed belt. The debris blocks the strainer and very quickly leads to major component failure. These guys will not get involved with rebuilds as too time consuming and damage could be in so many areas.

They aren't re-buildable insofar as no bearings are available that aren't standard size.

So proper throw-away. Such a backward step in the name of economy. The car I heard about today was a 5 year old Focus with under 50k miles. A write off with the cost of a new engine and fitting.

Poor is it not? We have had (in the family) Peugeot 2.0 hdi with 200k and Audi A4 1.9 225k (still being used with 250k. Not as clean burning admittedly but I would like to know the CO2 footprint compared to the Focus in question.
Can’t get over this, new stuff can be efficient as you want, but if it don’t last, it’s w6nk, old stuff went forever surly that counts for something :scratchhead:

I presume a belt in oil would be fine provided it was synthetic and not rubber based? I.e kevlar?
They need a very specific oil, it a Castrol 5/20 I 🤔
My wife & I both have ford 1.0 eco boost cars, a 120bhp fiesta & a 155 mild hybrid Puma.
Both have been great so far but we don't do huge mileage.
I did though buy the correct Castrol oil for the fiestas recent service.
That timing belt is supposed to last 10 years or 150000 miles, whichever comes first
Bit of a job to change though I believe, engine out to do it.
So yes, use the correct oil & tbh I agree, change every 10k/1 year whatevercomes first....not 18k/2 years & I suspect you'd be extremely unlikely to have problems.
Mind you, I wouldn't buy second hand with an unknown service history...
