What wrong with that? My scanner charged £40 then 50p for every ewe after. Did 500 and 450 over 2 days month apart.

Think mines 65p flat rate but I’m fairly low number 280 this year other guy I used was slightly cheaper but had a weird noise that happened when it pumped the jelly stuff out for scanning head, the ewes did not like it and it made scanning very hard work

Don’t see a problem.
My scanning man charged flat rate of £0.65 for our 385 so £250.25.
On that number your man would be 335 @£0.60 = £201 plus the first 50 at £1 so £251.

Just a different way of doing it so that the smaller jobs are worth providing the service to those that want it I guess.
Sad if you and your mates end up miscalling if him locally as a result.

It’s the 20/350 wrong is the problem, especially charging full whack first year doing it

slightly different, sons mate shears, and has far more than he can do, and is giving it up, except his own, and a few small, cash jobs, at an age where aches and pains dictate. Is there that serious shortage of shearers ?
