If say a belt baler we have a Kuhn 3195 very happy with itWant ability to chop and make 5 foot round bales.
Mate of mine had 1 and never stopped telling me how great it was he had a 590 before it .Any thoughts on a JD 864 premium as I'm looking for a S/H baler for straw this harvest.
Look for a welger 445 or a McHale v660 pre 2014/15Thanks used Contractors for year's but he's packing up so looking round for a decent baler to bale 3000 straw bales behind 40ft combines.
Any recommendations appreciated
Krone comprima v150 in 34 foot swaths, driven by 120hp, 80+ bales an hour was easyIn one word Krone eats straw
Had it up against a very good Irish green machine last year and the Krone had almost double the output .
Years back I ran the krone 1250 and best I had out of it was 120 bale in an hour admittedly they were only 4 ft bales and probably only about 160 kg.Now have one of the newer ones and output would average 80 to 90 an hour but bales are 4ft 6 and more like 200 kg .
You do need a decent net in them though .
Will chop and bale to 5ft but at 5 ft we find them a bit wide on trailers when lugging in plus bloody heavy to roll down shed .
My fendt /welger copes fine I knocked out 80 acre for someone in an afternoon last year as long as you can get it under the tractor it's absolutely fineI bale 500 acres behind a 30foot cut for a friend and to be honest in a decent crop of straw I wouldn't want another10 feet!
Luckily the 40ft rows are virtually always produced from pgr'd to nothing and/or smashed to bits crops. If it was possible to get a walker combine to produce 40s on a grass/stock farm it would be a challenge for any outfit to get over it.My fendt /welger copes fine I knocked out 80 acre for someone in an afternoon last year as long as you can get it under the tractor it's absolutely fine
I would agree the net feed has always been slightly temperamental on the krones its a lot better on the v150 that I have now than the older 1250 ‘sKrone comprima v150 in 34 foot swaths, driven by 120hp, 80+ bales an hour was easy
Bone dry barley straw was weighing 220 to 250kg in 1.35m diameter bales
For straw I don't think there's a simpler, easier to drive, better performing baler, or one that can be purchased relatively cheaply. Net feed mechanism is the only thing that lets it down.

Why pre 2014/15?Look for a welger 445 or a McHale v660 pre 2014/15
They made a bunch of changes around that time which made them make softer bales. There were a few new ones in this area mine included that caused the dealer a lot of hassle with complaints. Why pre 2014/15?
