French to stop exports

Do you think there really is a shortage of food? I'm not so sure.

Besides we will bear the brunt of it when there is a surplus again

The Chinese knew last autumn that the sh1t was going to hit the proverbial fan. They also understand that food is the most important commodity required to avert civil unrest and regime toppling. When will the UK government realise what a knife edge we exist on?

If anything this current situation should be a huge wakeup call for all Western countries who have previously thought imports were the answer to all their problems.

At what price point do our Government step in (after lobbying by the processors who need to beg our produce on the cheap, to sustain their business model), and requisition grain in farm stores, "for the public good"?
I'll bet there is a contingency plan somewhere, it is only farmers who want high prices.
The supermarkets seem to know how to charge.

nothing to see here, George Eustace said there are no shortages in the supermarkets so nothing to worry about, and anyway, we can all use FYM to replace Nitrogen. And he is the Government minister in charge of Agriculture, with the knowledge and research of the whole department behind him, so I am sure he is right!!!!!

Chicken and pig.
I heard snippets of a program on Radio 4 this afternoon about ‘farming’ in Northern Ireland. Almost entirely slanted at ‘conservation’ and ‘net zero’ and curlew conservation of course, being the BBC. The curlew expert had been conserving the bird for at least ten years and it had declined annually, blaming mostly farmers rather than predation by other wild animals in her ‘conservation’ zones.

I am seeing a big drop in the numbers of ground nesting birds, our management hasn’t changed but there is a massive increase in the numbers of badgers and corvids . There used to be a handful of crows and rooks now there are hundreds and I’m sure they must be having a detrimental effect.

my thoughts too, there is also a lot of french maize imported here as well,my natural pessimisim makes me think this is just another ploy to encourage growers to sow,and then near harvest when crop yields look more certain, the rug will be pulled
France is a net importer of maize, ukraine being the main supplier.

Getting paid under the wader grazing option of aecs here which essentially changes next to none of the management which to me suggests it has always been very suitable for ground nesting birds, but surprise surprise there’s no visible increase in them, plenty of crows and foxes tho! All the habitat in the world won’t make a difference if the eggs don’t get to hatch.

I reckon if the incentive was to control foxes and crows the results would be astounding, both environmentally and agriculturally, won’t happen tho. 🤦🏼‍♂️
