We find the same, last time we were over there we went for a pub lunch, I wouldn’t have fed the sh!t we were served to my dog.That’s a good start
About the cooking, each time I return to the uk I am still stunned by the amount of McDonalds, it kind of shows that largely in the uk, eating is now something similar to putting fuel in the car

It suits the EU just fine for the UK to fail in implementing border checks. But I suspect other non EU counties who export to the UK will soon be lodging complaints and demanding legal action with the WTO. As the UK will be seen as giving preferential treatment to EU members, which is illegal.
