Big telehandler

One thing on my wish list next year is a large 4.5ton plus telehandler. Would go for loading shovel however like the extended possibilities with a teleporter. Currently run two manitou s. So the possibility of putting a manito headstock on would be good to.

Main job would be loading potato bulkers and moving corn

Wow, 33 tonnes at height and no outrigger legs. Obviously supplied with hermetically sealed underpants!

Manitou have plenty choice around the 4 -4.1 tonne machines. For an agricultural spec Mlt above 4.1 tonne there is a 6t MLT 961-160.

old school design MLT 845 120 LSU, so long as you dont want to go fast on the road as no powershift option.

Get a 550or560; Jcb there’s nothing to touch them in that category and still very handy/good lock
even if you don’t use its full capacity it will be easy work for it compared to 4.5ton machine

Merlo 55.9,
Manitou 845 or 960,
JCB 550/560

I think the Merlo has been out the longest. I’d get a demo or try one at a dealer and work out which has the fastest hydraulic cycle times.

Kramer KT557 - smooth power hydraulics, manoeuvrable and very well built.

We moved from a Manitou 634 to a Claas 7055, which is the same as the later badged Kramer 557.

Ours is a 17 plate and we bought it 18 months ago.

IT already had a manitou headstock on.

I have never been so happy with something we have bought, its such a step up from the Manitou in every way I literally wouldn't even entertain having a Manitou on farm again, we had them for over 30 years.

They are fantastic on top of their job, nimble, good visibility and versatile.

Our manitous always tended to have problems overheating amongst other things.

Move away from Manitou and i promise you wont look back.

PS Cherry make the headstocks i believe.

I looked at a 4 ton lift manitou , didn't perform clumsily at all ,

I wouldn't bother with anything around 4 -4.5 ton as they are mostly 3.50 ton machines with Hydraulic Pressures screwed up and more counterweight - go for something in the next league up - 5.5 to 6 ton range to see an apreciable increase in output with larger bucket capacities and stability.

Merlo 55.9 is good but Merlo devaluate more than others. JCB is hit and miss build quality wise. Kramer do one as do Claas so thats where I would be looking favouring the Kramer.
