Weaving sabre tine user thread

Yes you can just remove your rear pipes and leave your front tank on but it doesn’t take any more time to take off a front tank than any rear mounted implements. We don’t have any problems with penetration at all with our sabretine toolbar . If anything I’m always more worried about it going to deep .

Did you ever try drill beans with your own design seed tubes?

Well, after a full year as a Sabre user, here’s my verdict.

I went for it to increase my daily output with my 250hp, which is my sole tractor on 1,100 acres. The Claydon was great for seven years, but I wanted a 6m drill. Also, Claydon went to dealerships, and for me that wasn’t a good thing where I’m based, at all. I called Claydon shortly after that announcement to discuss something, and was told very bluntly that I couldn’t call them any more! Oh well… I’d help sell them several drills too.. You live and learn.

The new Sabre is a joy to use. Hassle free, built well, and it really cranks out the acres. I can easily do 130 acres on one of my big days, which is good enough for me.

Seed placement is very accurate, and easy to set up.

Trash flow (summer or Spring) was brilliant with the four rows of tines. it basically doesn’t block up.

Calibration and metering is excellent, and easy to do.

On to results…

Very pleased indeed. Lovely thick crops, which have hugely helped suppress black grass. I’ve had wheat yields this year that I haven’t had for the last ten years.

I have a lot of flint, and tine wear has been a full set in one season. This equates to £3.50 per acre metal costs, which is really good for my soil. It’s exactly the same as the Claydon metal cost. For most Sabre users, I reckon you’d get three seasons out of a set of tines and tubes.

So, all in all, very pleased indeed. If anyone is wondering if the Sabre can be a true single pass drill - I can absolutely confirm it can. It’s tough, and it’ll keep going and going.

After @Bob lincs Sabre tine conversion objected to our flinty land by shedding a few tines, we converted to Metcalfe points and took the opportunity to widen to 6 m with a couple of additional legs. We also got a pair of more substantial depth wheels as the KV wheels did in a tyre on nearly every outing, with the bead being separated from the rim despite operating at max tyre pressure.

From memory when we ordered, similar to Weaving. The points are interchangeable with a single roll pin, and come in different lengths with tungsten tiles. When the invoice comes I will try to remember to post prices.

That looks too close tine spacing for us, the KV chassis gives us 4 well spaced rows which clear fallen maize stalks with no problem.
Agreed; I’d have the spacing out at 250 same as my sprinter which also has metcalfes. It would need significant modification! You can get a longer point from Mike to fit those coulters to go behind the wheels-they transformed my wheelings. Would definitely recommend.
