25ac Prospect in and rolled this afternoon. There's still some moisture there but it's pretty fluffy.

I think it hold moisture and surpresses early weed growth. We will start end of next week.
We did. 14mm in April I'm told, and 1.5mm today. You may have more rain down there though. Certainly unlikely to cap.

I’ve used rubber Demi John bungs from a home brew shop. That’s the easiest you just have to trim them a little to fit. Vaderstad do a replacement cover to the distribution head with perforated metal covering the pipes, it works well but not with the standard pipe arrangement so you have to spend some time moving a few of the pipes.

I’ve gone back to a precision drill. I prefer putting some N in with the drill especially if it’s dry. Also the drill comes with a driver so I don’t have to do it, means I can keep my spraying and other tractoring up together.

At one time I had a customer who was paying a contractor £14/acre for maize drilling, he showed me the invoice. If the driver is skilled I can't see how any farmer can really do it for that.

We were looking at £23-25 for pharrow + similar again for drilling, if I can can do one pass with our vaderstad Im looking at £12 acre.

Absolute bargain. A vaddy set up right and driven properly has a considerable cultivation effect so it's doing more than 1 job.

I wouldn’t disagree I’ll be paying more than that this year. It’s the clash with T1 that was frustrating for me. Now my contractor has a drill that isn’t fussy and will handle 26 0 0 37. I don’t think I will be going back.
But it does work doing it yourself with a modified cereal drill

Mostly chalk so it’s easy working, will only plough 30ac after grass this year. So deep cultivate and then press is enough. The heavier silt takes a little more work, power harrow on that just stirs the lumps around.
