Elections 22

Well I’m done with the conservatives for one reason. Their hell bent charge for green energy. Just seen Boris interviewed and he’s already lost 100 councillors but set to loose upto 300 with the biggest issue being cost of living crisis. He refuses to tax the energy companies repetitively saying he wants the energy companies to invest in green energy so taxing them isn’t an option even though the boss of shell said a windfall tax wouldn’t stop them investing in new technologies.

Boris clearly wants to win the worldwide race to carbon neutral and it’s going to take down U.K. agriculture in the process so the rumours of gov documents suggesting the U.K. adopt the Singapore route of importing all food and not having an agricultural industry at all look like they could well be true.

I don’t give a stuff about party gate as we all broke the rules at some point. I don’t care how many kids he’s got. I don’t care that ministers made money off the pandemic. All those things and many more don’t bother me, but the race to go green does when the science behind global warming is questionable but also other countries clearly don’t give a monkeys about going green and are carrying on as normal.

Don’t think I’ll bother voting again.

While importing the very things from those countries , that we have basically drove production out the UK to them

I would think the opposite, don’t think there has ever been a time that energy independence has been more important, regardless of whether one believes in climate change.

The time is for the U.K. to start fracking for energy and increasing nuclear. Renewables are already well established.

I think the conservatives have shot themselves in the foot. The general public are going to vote thinking about a year in advance, not 30 years in advance. They want cheap living now.

I agree with the nuclear, serious investment should have been started 20 years prior to what was.

Fracking has passed.

Energy companies are being taxed.

Energy companies are being taxed.

Where, In Lichtenstein?

Two local small businesses saying they've had enough of high rates and ridiculous energy costs, and they're about to pack in. Another local chap that works with a 'big national' saying their energy costs are projected to rise from £8 million a year to £16 million, and he's not sure the business is sustainable.

I have a sneaky feeling that the Tories are looking far too cocky 12 years into government, and that their complacency is going to severely bight them and the whole economy on the arse within the next 12 months.

It's the blatant profiteering from companies like Scottish Power who are almost entirely generating their electricity from renewables, but justifying their exorbitant price rises on the cost of gas.
On the one hand they already receive a massive public subsidy from the government for their renewable generation, and on the other, surprise surprise, the 'price of wind' hasn't gone up.
The Tories should have the guts to limit the energy companies profit margins, or their heads will be up for the chop next year. Boris is so far out of step with the way he sees the cost of living crisis.

[I'll save the chippy feckers on here the bother: "but farmers are subsidised too!, make them pay more tax!". Well lets see if there's a profit left to tax, after paying the electric, diesel, fert and everything else 10% up first]

Of course they are paying extra tax via Corporation Tax.

Look behind the Shell boss's statement, the headline hides the fact he gave himself a £1.1m pay rise (28%), so he now earns £7.3m !!!

Perhaps he could have scraped by without a rise on his measly £6.2m !

Should farmers be taxed more who are selling wheat at these high prices? It’s all adding to the cost of living

I think in some respects politics is a bit like pass the parcel, who ever is holding the parcel when the music stops gets the blame, and the parcel at present is going to be not only cost of living crisis, but also supply (or lack) of food, and I think Boris is going to end up holding the parcel.
It always has been, every government change means they want to undo, make a bigger statement than the previous one, prove to the voters that they can make good their campaign promises, Boris won't want to be PM at the next election, just take the environmental commitments they made for 2030, we know they aren't achievable, so do they, they want to come back into government in 2028 and blame the previous government for not hitting those commitments. I didn't like the choices in the last General election, I dislike the present options even less!

But do they generate all their electric by renewables or is this just the usual spin, far too often the wind drops & 90% of electric produced comes from gas, nuclear, coal & imported.
Windfall taxes are wonderful when someone else is paying it & does not always paint a true picture, many companies are carrying large previous losses forward, BP for example!

So what! Don’t you think the oil companies cost have gone up? Not defending them but sometimes people on here don’t think it through.
Pump prices shot up immediately, the product they were selling then was bought at a cheaper price .must take weeks from when they buy crude oil to when it's actually petrol or diesel

It doesn't matter who you vote for, as none of the issues are resolved. Thousands of leeches have come across the channel from France and nothing has been done to get rid of them. Fuel prices are affecting everyone that have to travel to work and make price rises worse. I will not vote again.

Not really no. They had massive stocks manufactured months before oil went up and mid crisis oil came back down a bit but their prices didn’t. Rip off.
