Windfall tax for everyone.

Why not?
Why pick on the energy companies only? Seems to be a crime to make a profit these days.

I almost choked laughing.

So you think everyone can be compared with companies which invested totally outside of the UK - in Russia to be exact - giving Russia enough money to re-arm and then fund a war.

Hmmm .. I don't think there is any comparison.

So it's pretty obvious WHY the energy companies should be taxxed and why some of that tax money should be given back on condition of certain obligations - however, the directors and major share holders should be brought to account for investing in Russia - I also think the politicians which allowed this to happen whilst preaching "Climate Change" should also face a reckoning.

I agree.

But how about the money earnt overseas, should that be taxed here or there.

Its all very complicated.

Not necessarily.

Most of the earnings comes from advertising which is transacted on an individual basis - which is exactly how companies like Google charge.

They know down to the micro pence what is going on.

Companies making money in the UK but avoiding social taxes should be hit with company NI in proportion to the employees they are not paying for in the UK.

Ok, now disregarding the energy companies, should there be a windfall tax on companies that have done extremely well out of covid effects.

Windfall taxes sound like a good idea to the hard of thinking but are just stupid in reality. The more money a company makes the more tax it pays through general taxation. That’s the system. It's the easiest thing in the world for a politician desperate for votes to bring this up yet again which is why it keeps coming round. If you chop the legs out from certain companies like BP and Shell then what do you think happens to all their huge investments in other generation technologies and oil/gas investments to being about price stabilisation?

Why is it only the oil and gas companies that get chosen as victims of windfall taxes?

The issue of taxing the likes of Google, Amazon etc is an entirely separate issue and shouldn’t be lumped in wrt a windfall tax. Mind, I’d be delighted if Bill Gates had a worldwide windfall tax applied to him which took away 99% of his amassed fortune, considering what he’s doing to farmland and farmers all round the world, never mind forcing his sad beliefs on the less knowledgable masses.
