Which investment is better currently

I currently have a small dilemma. I have sold some off my store heifers and done not Brilliant. So Im going have to graze the remaining 9 heifers for the summer to get more weight on them. So il have 9 heifers and then ewes and lambs. I can’t see how il have grass for them all without some inputs. Options are, creep feed lambs with creep at £390 a ton roughly, carry on feeding heifers at grass with their Nuts roughly £390 ton to. Or spread fertiliser but I am unsure on current price for nitrogen here. What would be the best solution be with these prices

sell some ewes with lambs at foot, or rotational grazing

Haven’t any that’s suitable for selling at moment either unfortunately. Ewes and lambs numbers have wore off so couldn’t pair them up

Easy enough to pair ewes & lambs in a field with a dog , even without a dog cant be that hard just open a gate and let a few through to the next field.

No dogs here unfortunately. Mine all tend to come running when see me as thet be moved field to field so often

I think you do have a dilemma, the feed at those prices will not give you a return, and fert at the current price won't either
certainly won't here we haven't seen rain for over a month.
Something will have to go I think.
Should be able to split ewes and lambs off if you study them when feeding,I have done it with different colored marker spray
they only need a dash on the side if you catch them by surprise

Grass growing here last week or so but from past experience it doesn’t grow huge amounts without a little nitrogen. It grows without but takes a long time even in peak growth conditions

I thought your ground saw plenty of hen muck? Why does it need nitrogen too?

Sell the heifers. Better taking a steady price for them than steaming corn into them plus the sheep all summer too keep everything fed.

Got that bad off price today for them if I sell the rest I’d lose even more money

There you are then. Leave them in, feed them grower ration so they don’t get fat, soon put on that extra growth so they sell better. Overstocking the grass and still having too pile corn out just leads too everything suffering.

I don’t think over stocked as such. Just very poor growth on most fields unfortunately. 90 ewes and 134 lambs on 36 acres is current stocking

If the grass isn’t there too feed them… it’s overstocked. We have the odd field where we know it won’t stand same stocking density as others will. And some parts of the farm will only stand half of what you’re quoting

. Landlord interference tends too be our problem in those cases.

unfortunately grows well with nitrogen just shame costs so much this year

have slurried a few paddocks but little response yet

Not Brillant as is 1 made 112ppk and highest was 170ppk. Then few at 150ppk. Compared to age and weights from heifers before and after mine were making 200ppk. Been told need to get more weight into them. Heaviest was 385kgs and some at 300kg and few at 340kgs

If you’re struggling at that with them I think there is seriously some truth in cutting your losses and starting again. Will cost a fortune if they are behind the trade that far too get them too catch up?
