We have a sencrop rain gauge and wind station. The app is very user friendly but I find the rain gauge is consistently 15% down on recorded rainfall. For example, we had two spells of rain here last week and the sencrop recorded a total of 6.5mm whilst our old fashioned rain gauge totted up 8mm. Neighbours also report the same thing with their sencrop stations.
We found this

I'm delighted to see this entry.

I couldn't agree more, namely - App is very handy but accuracy is worryingly poor.

I have tried to open the rain gauge - to look for any insects or cobwebs stuck in the gauge - but can't get it to budge. I have poured a measured amount of water down the funnel and, by my guess, the gauge is 20-25% light.

I haven't had cause to mistrust the anenometer until we had Storm Arwen. Everybody had 80-90mph winds and my wind station recorded a 50mph top.

Hmmmm!!!

Nonetheless I like the idea of an automatic weather station and accessing it on my phone. It just needs to be accurate.

Lasted 2 years and had to replace it. They discounted it but not overly impressed.
That's interesting.

My Windcrop gave up out of warranty, I bought a replacement and the signal is so intermittent, sometimes I

cannot get a reading on the app.
They have tried to help, and I've moved the station to two other areas around the farm, but not much improvement.

all ours are still running well, one was replaced due to vandalism (foc by sencrop i will add when they were told why it was damaged ! which is great customer service)

app is great and its something we all use every day

a great solution imo

Really like ours but I do question the rain measuring at times

Do any of you use a Davis weather station as well as a Sencrop weather station?
If so how do they compare in accuracy and reliability.
I myself have Davis Vantage Pros2, and during the four years I have had it I have had to replace the humidity sensor and the anemometer unit.
I think the rain gauge is pretty accurate.
I only have it as hobby tool,so accuracy not so important as if I was growing potatoes/ field scale veg which has to be irrigated to allow crop to grow to certain criteria, stipulated ultimately by supermarkets.!!

My Davis Vantage console died (again). Replaced it with a basic Vue console and a wifi network link. Still using the original (15 year old) station.
Davis weather link app is really good, can get data from any connected station, and it is free to use.

Is the sencrop not made by Davis instruments? They certainly look very similar. I still maintain our sencrop is usually 15% down on recorded rainfall.

Which is why I said only as remote as the nearest WiFi signal.
Mine has been running since Dec 2012, I replaced the anemometer a year or two back otherwise it is fine. Not sure how you measure “not lasting” but I think I have had my money’s worth.

I had a Maplin one that was £30 on offer - it lasted about 6 months - very similar to the one you linked

Wifi is ok if you want it for your garden but you not getting much further from a building really

But for the money they are ok for home use I guess, not something you can compare a remote network field station with however
Mine is still working. 10 years old nearly. :)

wifi means it needs to be near a network so building - doesn’t work for us on remote farms and even at home my old wifi station needed to be so close to the house to connect it was sheltered for wind and rain

I must ask my friend in Saskatchewan how he used to monitor his Davis stations that were scattered around an area of Saskatchewan. He collected weather data for predicting probability of certain diseases in Alfalfa being grown for seed.

i guess he must have a version with sim card / data ? not the £40 maplin version i had that needed to be 20 m from the wifi router

Sencrop use the Davis rain meter so it should be the same. I think there is an adjustment on the balance of the tipping cups to get them bang on

Do you know how to do that?

I understood you had to open the unit but I can't get it to budge. It looks like you twist the unit but it is hard plastic and you feel it is going to break when you force it.

It is a bugger to do.

I nearly messed up the clip things.

I kept easing the three slides with a large plumbers wrench to clean the cups.
