Got a bigger agenda than commie @le bon paysan
Deport her asap

She seems a perfectly reasonable person and very dignified considering the situation.

BoJo told a complete lie about her in parliament, probably wasn't ready that morning and thought he'd wing it, it cost her more time in jail having done nothing wrong other than being an innocent pawn between governments.

I presume your life is pretty good but you virtually always come across as incredibly angry and full of hate, which is a pity for you, hopefully your better in real life.

If you'd being in her situation and BoJo had caused you to be detained longer well I dread to think of the rage you'd have been in, certainly not as dignified as she is.

Do you have a link to that evidence ?

Perhaps she was told but just wanted to see her parents, if you've done nothing wrong probably you don't think anything can be done to you I suppose.

I once crossed a border with razor wire and troops with guns, thankfully I wasn't a terrorist so they didn't bother me 👍

I made it back to Southern Ireland in time for tea 🤣

That is very true, and she was told, because that was the CFO's general advice at the time she went, maybe she was told personally too. But Boris still made a major cock-up in this, the old rule for politicians asked something they don't know the answer to, is to say that the matter is under consideration or pending an official statement etc.. He should have done that.

Unless, of course, he was briefed incorrectly and merely repeated what his staff told him; that has happened before and, usually, the Minister covers for the CS. It will be interesting to see what come out in time.

You didnt need to be a genius to know that going to places like Iran North Korea syria etc is dangerous, the FO issues guidance about such places, if you ignore it then imvho dont expect the government to bail you out.
These sort of countries use people as pawns for their own aims, in this case she seems pretty ungrateful that the government paid 400 million to get her out, regardless of whether what boris said prolonged it or not, had she not gone in the first place she would have never been arrested.

you can’t really say the gov paid 400 million to get her out; they had the debt anyway 🤷‍♂️

Utter shite

Anyone who thinks she's as innocent as she makes out is just plain gullible.

Waste of 400 million

I wonder how many other women of her breeding would have been glad to marry a gullible English man and just come here and keep their heads down and mouths shut?

Absolutely disgusting comments.

Turn your computers off and go outside in the sunshine for a while. Looks like you need a mental reset.

Just for the record the UK paid back a debt of £400m owed to Iran since the time of the Shah. She was no more than a pawn in the game.

I can tell you that all the families, and that is quite a few as there is a network of such people, I have spoken too, very rarely does the hostage express any thanks and most are very bitter about their experience. Many families are completely broken and fall apart as soon as the spotlight is taken off them. The mental toll on both sides during the experience is huge.
That poor girl will have been completely brainwashed by her captors and she will take years to recover. She needs peace and quiet and something to do with her life to take her mind off the terrible ordeal she has been through.

I'm sure it is something that wrecks people completely both the hostage and their family.
People need to think harder before they go to countries which have history of using hostages etc.

You would be pretty foolish or extremely brave to visit a country against the advice of the foreign office. You would be doubly foolish to enter one of these countries if you were working for someone like Reuters as a journo- particularly if you or your company had ever written bad press about the government of the country you intended to visit.

The fact remains that people who travel to these countries, do so entirely at the mercy of the government in question. I very much doubt the UK and Iran have any diplomatic links whatsoever and so there is precisely nothing the UK government could ever do to secure their release. In such circumstances, it would be madness to travel there if you ask me.

The only way you will ever travel in even relative safety to such countries as a working journalist is if you contact the foreign ministry of the government in question and get their assent beforehand for entering under the guise of journalism. It probably helps if you say nice things about them. I forget their name but one journalist travelled to Iraq back in the day relatively easily, and secured interviews with their officials, providing statements and news from within Iraq where no other journalist, western or otherwise, could set foot. It was all because the journo in question had only ever written purely objective and carefully worded reports about Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi government and their people throughout his career. For example, he would write the 'Iraqi government' whereas lots of other western journos used the term 'regime' routinely as it was a negative piece of terminology and it meant such news companies and their staff were unwanted in the country.

Iran is just one such insular and hostile country, there are plenty of other countries which do not care much for western governments and probably care not for the plight of a western journo in the slightest.

And the UK government could have issued a statement at the very beginning stating that she was an Iranian national and it is entirely their affair. Any and every statement by them pleading for clemency etc raised her value in the Irainians eyes

You don't think if the UK government had said: 'she is an Iranian nationals and nothing to do with us' they wouldn't have just executed her?
