But your European mob are truly a bunch of feckwits. Want a good slapping. They are taking the pee like a old fishwife. Clever fecking EU mob thought they could use the sectrianism in NO to stop the leave vote and then to get BRINO off May. Didn't work out - now they seek revenge. Me, I would take Macron and the other EU mob and give a good kicking. That would sort it. Stupid feckers.

None of the poxy niceties of legalese and treaties - just the view of an ordinary bloke who sees a bunch of clever sods taking the mick.
I fear you have missed your true vocation, you would fit in perfectly in the current Foreign Office🙄

Many a true word spoken in jest. To me, a common man, this whole farce is absolute tripe. Drummed up by over educated academic folk who like to look down their noses at the common man who has an accent and cannot read Latin. My potatoes going to Northern Ireland for chipping - why the hell do they have to have paperwork as though going to a foreign country. Nope my friend this is all about politics and control. And to the common man it is a load of b/llocks. And good on the DUP for calling out the farce. All you educated folk with your treaties and whatevers. Hey ho.

Quite simple really, to give effect to Brexit there had to be a border the UK made sure of this by exiting the single market, to ensure GFA was not breached Boris and Frosty decided this border would sit in Irish sea. They signed the UK up for this and the DUP voted for it. Don't need to be a rocket science to follow that.

I do follow it. But doesn't mean to say an ordinary bloke like me that can't speak Latin doesn't think the whole farce is just that, a farce, And the ordinary NI DUP man thinks the same. A farce drawn up in spite by some EU and EU member state big wigs to settle scores from their days at the Sorbonne, not a comp in the Fens where the truth and common sense was taught and not the niceties of using treaties. You would be a good fella at the FO. Can just imagine you sharing an aperitif with a foreign diplomat discussing the finer details of the placement of a semi colon in a treaty while a British lorry driver was languishing in jail because he couldn't read a road sign and innocently went the wrong way down a one way street.

Just so you know the agreement was that drawn up by the UK after they binned Teresa May's agreement which did not have the border as now. Perhaps the DUP man may reflect on the fact that their MP's voted for this UK drafted agreement. I shall ignore your uninformed rant as I can only assume you are a reader of the Daily Fail, Express or Torygraph.

"The attorney general, Rt Hon Geoffrey Cox QC, in his legal advice to the prime minister on November 13 2018 clearly set out the position with regard to Theresa May’s backstop proposal.

He stated, “Northern Ireland will remain in the EU’s single market for goods and the EU’s customs regime, and will be required to apply and to comply with the relevant rules and standards. These include over 300 different legal instruments ...The implications of NI remaining in the EU single market for goods, while GB is not, is that for regulatory purposes GB is essentially treated as a third country by NI for goods passing from GB into NI. This means regulatory checks would have to take place between NI and GB...”

This present equivalent ‘regulatory’ Irish Sea border remains the source of the majority of the present practical and constitutional issues and the potential issues when further grace periods come to an end. Potentially this would have been exactly the same with Theresa May’s backstop.

The customs arrangements contained in Theresa May’s protocol involved the UK as a whole forming a customs territory with the EU, though as the attorney general concedes, “The arrangements as a whole will apply differently in GB and NI. … NI remains in the EU’s Customs Union, and will apply the whole of the customs acquis.” Even with these arrangements, in the words of the attorney general, “Goods passing from GB to NI will be subject to a declaration process.”

It is apparent that Theresa May’s protocol involved regulatory checks, a declaration process for goods passing from GB to NI, and Northern Ireland remaining subject to over 300 different EU legal instruments."

This is not consistent with stating that her arrangements would have avoided a border in the Irish Sea.

Incidentally the DUP voted against May's Deal on all three occasions and on Johnson deals as reflected in the Hansard/Divisions records.

so what you saying is you don't understand the need for borders ?

that your mind can't understand why countries might want to be able to control what is and is not allowed into our country

that the concept that NOT allowing a disease like foot and mouth or swine fever, or food laced with some cancer giving chemical might be a good idea ?

I’ve seen some ignorant statements on this forum but that one is up there 😅. Do you mean a literal kicking would sort it?

Mays back stop would have worked.
If the UK government had done what they signed up to do, there wouldn't be a problem. They haven't, don't blame the EU , you wanted to control the borders now you don't want a border. Tough!

Because Boris lied to you.

Interesting that Ms McDonald has started throwing accusations at HMG, I quote 'The British government have assisted the DUP in these blocking tactics.' Hmm...

Interesting because, as I remember it, it was the Gov't of the ROI who were particularly keen on the inclusion of the provisions, now being used by the DUP, into the Belfast Agreement... short memories some of these posh Dublin girls.

Not short, selective. They (politicians) all have selective memories when suits.

i noticed @Hindsight has still to explain how he thinks Borders should work

This border issue has feck all to do with how it should work. I have no idea about NI politics but to a Fenman with no idea even I can see the border issue is being used by the EU to keep poking a hot poker into the British side and is dirty politics by the EU knowing full well the political history of that region. Dirty, dirty, dirty. But then that us what we came to expect.

No, the uk government have reneged on the Protocol by not implementing the fantastic oven ready etc, etc. that Boris and Frosty came up with.
Mays deal would have worked . End of.

Nige said " being like Norway " would be fine.

All the interviews with the Brexit mob said " we wont leave the customs union Or Single market"
