Scrapping farm assurance

After discussions with the people we sell cattle to it has become clear that beef assurance is a waste of time, effort and money.

now here’s my dilemma….

this week we have a “visit” to do Arable and Beef inspection.

arable (for now) is going to have to stay assured so do I……

A - ring the assurance lot up now and say we’re binning beef off

B- wait till the man arrives on the appointed day and tell him

or

C- just go thru the motions and when we get to the end tell him the (inevitable) beef related non conformance’s don’t matter as we’re scraping it

If they come to do 2, they'll charge you for 2.

No point telling the bloke when he turns up (B) and telling him he's only doing the arable as he'll likely take umbridge and bust his arse trying to find as much wrong as he can.

But it would seem he has already paid.
It would just be a case that any beef related non-conformances would not be relevant.

That’s what I’m thinking

let them go thru the motions then just tell them I’m not renewing beef. That way the bloke won’t turn up in poor form or start looking for arable related issues in retaliation.

inspector is a nice chap actually, and to be honest I have no idea why he has associated himself with such a bunch of crooks!.

I know I'm stating the obvious for most of you but;

RT is simply a way of making us pay for what the buyers used to do.
It has shifted expense and responsibility to the farmer.
Buyers/ markets were always responsible in ensuring the standards and welfare of what we were selling, it was part of their job. We now pay £millions to have someone ask us if we are behaving.

Well done for cutting out this unnecessary crap.

I recall someone writing in the Farmers Weekly probably 20 years ago that they had farm assurance in his grandfathers day, he stood by his pen of lambs in the market and the buyers knew who he was and the quality of his stock.
