In the past couple of weeks the local rural community have suffered from an epidemic of crime of which the Police are powerless to do anything about.
Below is an edited version of what I have sent to the police.
We are experiencing what can only be described as a massive crime wave on the rural community and I am afraid the Rural Police Team are not greatly thought of by the farmers or country people.
In the last week not only have quad bikes been stolen but yesterday a Tack room was broken into locally and all of the horses were let out, including a Mare that was in Foal which broke its leg and had to be put down. Today a local farmer had his van stolen with his sheep dogs in, luckily it had a Tracker and was found some ten miles away. There are pictures of the men who took it on CCTV but unless forensic evidence is found they will get away with it.
One farmer who has had two quad bikes stolen and a trailer which he pursued through the streets of the local town a year or so ago never received any help from 999.
On a separate incident, I found a large quantity of Cannabis and bags dumped in a gateway I tried to report it through 101 but gave up after half an hour waiting to get through. I reported it via the on line reporting which was very tedious to fill in. I received and acknowledgement and expected something to happen. 5 days later I received an email to say the police were investigating it.
After our quad bike was stolen this week I tried to contact two of the rural team, but their phones just go through to 101.
I am afraid the local community are very close to taking things into their own hands which will end up with someone being injured or worse unless more is done by the Police.
There was a report on Facebook of an individual being arrested for being equipped to burgle!! I doubt that will ever stick and it is highly unlikely they were on their own.
The vehicles that are fitted with Trackers all end up in or near to the Pikey camps. I would estimate that 90% of the crime is by these people and the costs to local communities is no longer sustainable.
Do other areas have these issues or are we particularly badly affected?
