Red Tractor non conformance

I don’t usually have too many problems with my audit but I do put in a huge amount of work in advance. Am I wasting my time?

What is the consequence of lots of lots of non-critical failures?

Sorry Mr Inspector I don’t have any grain temperature and moisture records this year but it all sold fine. I didn’t bother recording when I cleaned my grain trailer, I think Mass Balance is stupid so I just didn’t bother, NRoSO have kicked my spray operator out because he was a point short and I didn’t want to agronomist to lie on report.

Just musing to myself before I begin days of trawling through notes and diaries!

I just put it all on a spreadsheet then change / make up the dates the day before the visit. Forgot to do this one year but inspector never noticed everything was a year out
Every time I get a new diary from my buying group I go through and fill out the dates I calibrate thecspinner, sprayer, clean the temporary store and trailers etc, it all gets done but never on the day in the diary, often forget to record things like that but as long as it's written down then it's ok.
Every industry makes up rubbish to cover their ass, it seems that if you have a written record its deemed to have happened but if asked and you say yes I've done it but not got it written down then you dont have " proof"

If the inspection takes place one all the grain has left the farm it doesn't really matter.
You'll get 28days to send them corrective action. For grain Temps what can you do except state on there little form records of temp will be kept going forward and then weather you do or not the next year is kind of irrelevant until the next inspection.

The whole dates for doing stuff is utter cobblers. I've sat at a desk with a auditor many times and just thumbed through my diary and chose a random date, I've even had assessors ask me to retrospectively record a date even when I've told them I have no idea when in a given month it was done.

At the end of the day, don't worry about audits they'll be what they'll be and not even the mighty red tractor can stop us farming. There's always a way to sell produce, even if red tractor will have you believe differently.

This is the way forward for all the stupid stuff.
For me, calibration, cleaning, monitoring etc is a continuous fluid process. It’s not something done once on one day, but if they want to see a list of dates when I supposedly did each item then I can print one out from excel on a wet afternoon when I haven’t got more important things to do. I check the grain trailer is ckean every time I fill it, check the loader bucket every time I fill a wagon, check the store floor every time I tip on it. These diary dates are a nonsense but hey ho I’ll print a list out for them.

You only have to look at the RT adverts on TV to understand the dumbed down over simplistic MIckey Mouse world the folks behind these schemes are living in.
It’s a bit like the British Gas boiler repair advert. It’s never that simple quick and easy is it? In the advert a dolly bird engineer turns up, fiddles about and the boilers fixed in 5 minutes. In reality a hairy arsed bloke turns up, your boilers completely knackered and you’ll need a new one for 5 grand and there’s a month waiting list.
And in reality on farms there’s muck and dust and oil and grease and more time spent raving bearings off than tootling about in a silly red tractor. Lying in bed at night sweating over futures prices, wondering if it will ever rain properly. Food safety is an important part of what we do, but it’s become an overriding obsession to some. And they’ve tried to compartmentalise it and dumb it down just to create the kind of primary school tick box image they think the public are interested in or even believe or even care about. Well the real world never was and never will be like that.

How much of a discount would you expect to give per ton of wheat/ barley/beans for farm to farm trading, non RT ? Fed up chasing SAI Global to try and get myself inspected before harvest. Seriously thinking of giving the whole thing the 🖕
Why chase them!!!!
I had my inspector ring me a couple of weeks ago, I genuinely missed his call as I was doing something much important like scratching my nose.
I haven't bothered ringing him back and he hasn't rang me so sod them I really can't worry about them, if he rings and wants to come round when I'm busy it's tough titty he'll have to work around me.

Everything that's important is done by me and done right, he's visit will just be a coul of hours of me blagging my way through an assessment. If I get bored-which I probably will, I'll just see how far fetched I can get with my answers!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣

Seems as though Red Tractor isn't worth the paper it's written on.

Everyone seems to say they make the records up. Everyone knows everyone makes the records up, yet the whole industry carries on with the charade :banghead:

I've heard lorry drivers fill out mycotoxin risk assessment results if you haven't got the passport ready.

Was offered the chance to sell non farm assured wheat next year for £5-7/ton under 'standard' assured price from a local poultry farmer. Discount to assured not that great just tricky finding the buyer.

Shocking isn't it? Farmers openly admitting to fraudulently filling out records, with no worries at all that RT will conduct sufficiently rigorous checks to expose such cowboy like behaviour.

As I've said before, what's needed is a much tougher, higher level assurance scheme.
