Attaching trailer air brakes

As above, is there a knack to attaching trailer air brakes?
Having bought a trailer with air brakes I tried quite hard to attach them to the tractor and failed, it felt like trying to attach a hydraulic coupling under pressure.
I must be doing something wrong, I can’t believe it should be that bloomin difficult

no but a bit of lube on the fittings helps

What do you use for lube?
Could some things be detrimental to the system long term?

oily rag that you use to wipe the other fittings

I just use whatever I have to hand grease oil but I think silicone spray would probably be best .

It's just to get them through the O ring

spit works to get through the oring too

They're not something I use if I'm swapping trailer's a lot then I'd just fire the oil on .

Also a pain having to wait for air to build up before moving

my wagon will hold for months if everything right

All in all air brakes on tractors are sh!t… manufacturers put them high up so you have too clamber your the draw bar too get your weight behind them too couple them up and then you nearly knock your teeth out falling back down off the draw bar

Fastrac is low so is easier but yeah they're a hassle high up especially if the trailer doesn't have the coupler with the decent grips on

We've only got a Stewart trailer with air just now and it'll be empty in hours never mind days
