But would it have affected the ones that’s been outside for past 6 weeks ?
Its less common this far after they’ve been eating the silage but I would still say yes. I’m v much doubting it’s gid as I’ve usually found that more of a problem with sheep 6-18 months old. Def not calcium or mag now as it’s to far after lambing so I would bet 10 of my acres it’s listeria from your silage. Hang on in there mate we’ve had encounters listeria in the past and you’ll find it passes. I bet you wI’ll only have 1 or 2 if any more now. Don’t waste your fecking time & £££ testing this and testing that & don’t go buying salt or countless min buckets it won’t be the magic cure youll just spunk your money away. Id be v v confident it’s listeria and your just gonna av to ride it out & make hay for the dam creatures next yr, feeding silage to sheep is dodgy they dont need any excuses to find summit to die from 🙈🙈🙈

Unfortunately hay not possible here for feeding inside with the way they are kept. Silage only thing can be fed

ok well bang 8 layers of wrap on from a field with no moles, don’t scalp the harvest field off with the mower and try get it dryish and the rest is in the hands of the big man in the sky 👍👍👍👍

And if u cut the wrap off in the winter & u see even a little bit of mold feed that bale to the cattle & look for another one. You can’t do nothing else.

Haven't a clue about what's wrong with your sheep, but I will say don't let it get you down, tomorrow will be better day for you, and hopefully your sheep, so keep the chin up, keep a smile on your face, and remember anyone of us on here I'm sure would be happy if u want to pm to talk to us, we all have our moments, especially in farming that can be lonely, but go get a cuppa, put out of your head and get a good night sleep, and deal with it tomorrow, get vet out,,

A good thing about mineral tubs is their very good barometers about what the sheep actually need. If any buckets are under half full 3 weeks post lambing with me they are left there as a just incase and if the lambs need them a few weeks later. The last few weeks I havnt seen any ewe go near the mineral tubs - showing that the mineral levels of the animals must be good.
Use them for same reason, dont use mag buckets just get pallet of high energy with deccox, (put out jan) but just keep sticking them out even now great indicator if there short of something as they hammer them, plus lambs learn to go up for a nibble with their mothers,

for perspective ive lost 5/4 ewes this year post lambing for the most annoying reasons, 1 black bag (prob soon to be 2), 1 had heart attack as i brought them in for drench (must have had some underlying condition), 2 rigged on the flattest ground? Lucky if i lose 1 normally at this stage god only knows why!

Just one of them years, though i was doing well with 2 pets now i have 10...

some days you wonder what you are a farmer... had a few of them recently! :scratchhead:

Thank you. I know a lot have alot more important issues than me, but for me in my personal life all I have is my sheep, literally all I have to keep me coping. When it goes belly up it’s hits harder

yea I hear what yer saying
things happen sometimes out of your control
you are doing the right thing by asking on here to get a better understanding also most good vets will give advice hopefully not just how to fix the problem but why it happens and how to prevent it
I ask things when I dont know case in point had some older ewes here sold some lighter ones drenched and put on good feed some kept losing weight got vet in and did bloods killed 2 and took samples and a PM on them for disease they had johnes (a wasting disease like crones in people effects the gut) any how looked up net rung 3 vets that had done papers on it and 2 prof's at a vet uni
have a management plan now to control it and know the signs
yes at the time it really effected me thinking what had I done wrong yes I did sit in a chair and cry thinking I was the worst farmer on earth
we all have crap days we also have great days
control what you can learn and also learn from mistakes
when something goes wrong ask why you will not be the only one thats had a problem
keep the sun on yer face and the shadows behind you
