God. Are you able to graze ?

Yes, thankfully april was really dry so ground is still soaking it up. We still have cows in at night as a lot of stuff got ahead of the cows so will end up cutting instead, we could really do with getting silage off but the forecast is crap for the week. Not the end of the world but i really dont need a big heap of beef cow silage!!

Went for a ride weekend... saw a lot of beef cattle silage ground all out in head, not sure why they let it go that far.

plenty of farmers still go for massive heaps, and leave it to 'bulk' up. Son helps our contractor, with a trailer, if necessary, rather a shock to his system, we like big heaps, but of quality, not overstood grass. And not only beef farmers, one beef farm, doesn't want to go, for a couple of weeks yet. I can see an argument for lower quality silage, for suckler cows, but everything else should respond to quality.

Not easy when there’s no weather we’ve had 6 days you could have made silage in the month of may, ground now saturated lots of cattle housed again, lots of cows back in again and water laying in fields everywhere we’ve had over 70mm of rain so far this month

Surely your better off pre-mowing the longer covers and make them eat that rather than housing if weather conditions are good enough? It won’t make the quality any better by making it into silage, just make it a lot more expensive….

Yeah probably, our day time temperatures will struggle to get in the teens this week so on wet days its nothing very exciting. Cows are milking well and happy to come in for some TMR at night but we will leave them out in the next week or so with a bit of luck.

Yeah, it's everything we collect winter
how big is the self feed area uncovered, and the amount of slurry, and dirty water, collected off it, and how much storage it needs.
Our recent experience with our shithead EA inspector, wanted to include all uncovered concrete, in his calculations, which made a massive amount of storage required, the actual definition, of 'clean' and 'dirty' yard water, is, if the cattle only walk across it, and its scraped up, x2 day, its classified as clean. With the 'new' slurry rules, coming in, could cause a major expense problem.

That store is +7m gallons. It will last 2 years. EA signed off.
We collect all yard water clean and dirty.
