Our 8340 shuttle lever either is difficult to engage, or it jumps out of gear. It works perfectly in reverse. We fitted a new cable but still no joy. Its got a loader fitted ,so its a right PITA.
Any suggestions? TIA.

When you push the lever forward does the lever appear to hit the front of the gate very easily/quickly?

Sometimes when the lever hits the gate it does`nt engage , other times it won`t hit the gate unless you ease the clutch, then it grinds the gears.
That, unfortunately, sounds like more than an adjustment on the cable. I sometimes have to ease the clutch on mine but it does not crunch. I wonder if the synchro is on it's way.

Thanks for your reply essexpete. We`ell try a bit more cable adjustment. If the synchro is on the way out, is that repairable?. The tractor`s done over 14k hours, so not worn out yet !.

I have not carried out repairs on a 40 series transmission but it will be repairable. There are several on here who will advise including @agrimax.

I’ve had the same problem in reverse on my blue roof Quad box. Won’t engage reverse properly when using the lever button, without giving the lever a very firm and quick pull backwards. Often it will jump out of reverse and gives a grinding noise as it does so. It is usually a linkage adjustment under the panel that the gear levers poke out of in the cab.

How big a job ? my blue roof shuttle is a bit crunchy sometimes
Iirc, the top lid needs to come off the gear box. Split between engine and box. Then the front cover off and front clutch pack out. The f/r hub is then in the next section. Can't remember if the control valve/side plate with the solenoids on it has to also come off or not... It's been a few years since I've worked on one...

Once you’re in there you may as well end up doing the clutch packs and everything else as well. Ring Mark or James at MJ Robinson Tractors

Can only do the C1/C2 clutch packs with the front out of the box.The box has to be removed completely to get the C3/C4 packs out as shafts need to be pulled back the way to allow the packs out through the side plate hole.
Before anything is dismantled,it would be worth doing a pack calibration first to see how high the numbers go to get an indication of wear in the clutch packs.

Thanks for all your replys. It seems very complicated. Where abouts are MJ Robinsons Tractors?. I guess our local N/H dealer could do it, but it would cost the earth?.
