Northern Ireland Milk Price Tracker

With the cost off electric rising has anyone considered running the farm on a diesel generator? We have 2 robots in and our electric bill is through the roof. Was considered buying a engine generator and running it during the day even and using economy 7 at night. Thoughts?

Red diesel not cheap either. How much would it use in a day?

Just put the wires in yesterday to get new genny wired up.
Electric bill currently circa £4K a month
Estimated to need 70ltrs to do the three milkings and heat water cool etc
Run 6am to 4pm and then night time milking ,
Even allowing £1k for other usage it should still save £1500 a month ,
Time will tell

I run the parlour and milk cooling on a generator. It is definitely more cost effective for a parlour where it is running about 4 hours but I’m not sure it would stack up as well when it is running all day

Surely robot men already have an engine powered generator? I bought my tractor generator off a man who was switching from parlour to robot and needed a startomatic if electric went off in the middle of the night. Same as chicken men.

We have 2 meters for the farm here. One of them is charging over double the rate than the other. You can guess which one is running the parlour and plant.

Also interested to know about the 2 meters. Was told I couldn't get 2 meters of the same supply? Ive I could get the dwelling house on a separate meter I could essentially put on more solar panels.
