Which beef breed bull to use going forward

I know its been discussed before but are people moving away from using blue semen on cows to a more grazing/forage type breed bull?

Tempted to move to hereford/angus but BBs seem to be far easier to sell when down with TB etc. Been burnt multiple times with herefords but will there be a big push for grazing beef x's now?

Aslong as i knew i could carry on selling calves at 10-14 days old at say £50-100 i would drop bulls tomorrow i just dont want to risk being stuck with sheds full of calves nobody wants!

There's plenty of good Herefords around. Short gestation easy calving and worth £100+ at that age. Just pick the bulls well, you wouldn't put dairy semen in a cow without knowing what it was?

We use blue and Hereford for Ai, have ready market for Hereford heifers at all stages, blues are fantastic to sell as calves and managed to find a great bull for the last 2 years, but he's not available any longer, but probably blues are worth more money.

The Hereford has thd advantage of being polled at least, I'm assuming that a polled BB isn't available due to the mutations already within the breed.

The Hereford also has more of an ability to lay down fat if you have to finish them, although the breed has big hard fleshing types too.

Polled blues are available from cogent.

Put a value in your calves and use lim semen. Remember not to expect the best calf trade using any breed if your using the easiest of easy calvers , they are short in length regards the carcase for finishing and narrow in the pelvis for breeding. Plus they wont be the best to sell at 14-21 days

those dairy lims can be hard feeders!
