Out of interest, just read His Wiki entry, if true, it would appear that he actually comes from a very privileged background, with a strong bias towards political connection, so would grow up with the innate feeling that he would know what was best for us all.

we seem to have an entitled political class in the UK, which is a real drain on innovative thinking, I am actually a Tory, I know some things I say could be construed as socialist, but I think we need more politicians like Maggie, who reached where she did through her own abilities.

You had to look up Wikipedia to come to that conclusion? :sneaky:
Well I thought ,as I have never really taken too much notice of him, I ought to actually find out if, a, he came from an austere background, then spent many years working as a tree surgeon then went and stood on the bow of the Greenpeace ship to stop Japan killing off all the worlds whales, or b, as it turns out, popped out of a metaphorical fur lined medium sized mansion.

I heard most of it and I concluded the man is an idiot but a dangerous one. He was coming away with nonsense but it was very convincing nonsense and if you had no knowledge of the subject and were listening it would be quite easy to be sucked in. He was there to promote his book as was one of the women and it became quite tiresome listening to them quoting there books.

Monbiot was at Hay Festival. I went to listen to him. He was with Fergal Sharkey.

The subject was Rivers as Sewers: Time to Turn the Tide

He made some points about the amount of sh*t that goes into rivers that you could not disagree with. Then he started on about chicken sheds and their effect on rivers with too much manure for the land to take up. To be fair he has a point.

He's a good communicator and possibly some in the audience might think twice about buying cheap chicken in the future

He wanted these chicken 'factories' to be closed down but didn't address the issue of where the chicken not produced by them would then come from.

I didn't buy his book which he was promoting.
