Oaf in humans

I hope not, but think I may have Oaf.

I got kicked in the mouth, holding a ewes leg on Sunday morning for the shearer. It bled quite a lot & no time for any cleaning up. We did have oaf quite bad last year, but used oaf buckets & lots of salt this year & only one ewe seems to have any scabs, right at the back of its mouth.

Anyway today my lip feels quite hot, tingles & I have a scab, feels like a mouth ulcer on the inside of my mouth.

What should I do, salt?

I'm guessing it's a typo and you mean orf.

Are you sure it's not just a scab that's healing your injury??

If you are at all worried that it is orf then I would seek medical advice 'cos orf in humans can be very serious.
If you need convincing, I can post some horror pics of Mrs YB's finger 😱

Orf in your mouth would be very painful.

Why surprised? I’ve known a few with it

Because given how many of us have plenty of opportunities to catch it, it happens quite rarely and I don't think a kick in the mouth would be the easiest way for it to be transmitted. Especially when @Devil's advocate said it bled a lot and the mouth is good at dealing with bacteria/ viruses in general.
But that is purely my opinion based on no real knowledge.

Could it be a mouth ulcer caused by the kick? Bathing in salt water would probably help but might sting.

Two family members needed hospital treatment for it one got a secondary infection traveled all over her body because she didn’t treat it. It can spread fast and the pain and itch is bad

Had it for the first time last year.
not pleasant

I think the bigger problem was the blood kept dripping so I kept wiping it off with my glove, which has been everywhere & anywhere.

Oddly enougth salt does not hurt it, in fact quite soothing. But I'm not sure salt on human lips is a great idea.

Yes my lip looks like that.

Did it feel hot & tingle?

Did you use any medication?

Currently there is no approved treatment for an orf virus infection. However, the lesion can become infected with bacteria if not properly managed.

The lesion should be kept dry and covered to prevent a secondary infection with bacteria. While working with animals or during manual labor in which the lesion might get wet, use a watertight bandage. To promote healing, a non-weeping sore can be uncovered at bedtime or covered loosely if still weeping.

If you are experiencing pain, fever, or notice that the lesion is becoming rapidly larger or spreading, you should see your doctor.
