100 hr services

Just been billed labour and parts for a 100hr service on my JCB handler. A quick greasing, waxing the boom and blow out air filters. 200 quid before VAT.
Does this happen much? It's such a pointless service I wouldn't have booked it if I knew. I thought they would change the hydraulic filter during it as the pump has been squealing from new if the oil is cold!
JD service on the other hand is a bit more comprehensive and the labour is free.

Is it down to individual dealers or the manufacturers as to who pays what?

Snows do the labour free as well, they do change all the filters which I think is quite important for any manufacturing contamination. I should have a word about the labour element😁

Indeed, I think I did word as such. I had greased the machine a couple of times already. I think the dealer is taking the phish. I foolishly thought it would be a fairly thorough first service as with other tractors and labour would be free and no warranty voided etc.
Isn't that normal practice?

100hr service on Merlo was £215 labour plus all the filters on top
£16 for Van mileage.
there was the time served main man here + young apprentice also
Ive had far worse bills for jobs so i can live with this one ok.
the two fuel & engine filters & one hydraulic one is just over £200
but nowt more now until 500hrs so cant complain too much.
Massey Tractors used to be the 1st 50hrs wasnt it & you only paid for parts used but labour was free

100 hr grease intervals seems a long time. I've always worked on 50 hr grease intervals max on any machine. Hedgebrushers daily. Engine oil and filters 250 hr max on tractors,

I just bought the filters for a 1000 hour service on a Manitou and they were almost £500, add the oil cost and what will take me all day to do then servicing is expensive.

bad job if you can't do a basic service yourself, if you can't or wont don't complain at £80/hr dealer costs
Not sure that's a fair comment.
if if got a £(insert ridiculous number of thousands) machine wanting 100hr service for £200 I'd day crack on even if they did nowt. Because you can guarantee something would go wrong the week after you'd be left with no leg to stand on

I wouldn't bother with it if you're not planning on keeping the machine long. If it's staying a while I'd change the engine oil and any wet filters and tell the dealer, if they want to come out and check it over, maybe retorque some bolts, plug the laptop in for checks/updates etc, they can but find out what they're doing and charging BEFORE they come out.

I'd be loathe to the first 100 hour service myself, I guess it will vary as to how well you trust the dealer and their particular set of techies. If the machine is squealing from cold then surely you would mention it and ask for the hydraulic filter to be replaced if that is what you want?

With machines now costing so much you're kind of stuck with paying for them to be maintained one way or another.

First service, there's all sorts of crap from the manufacturing process so it's a wonder they don't change all the filters automatically. Our valtra had the trans filter light coming on when cold at 80 hours so it was due a change at 100.

You think nearly £4.50/hr in service costs is not a big bill. You happy for a £1800 when you have the 500hr service done.

I agree. I noticed the machine squealing immediately and mentioned it to the dealer the next day. Not much reaction tbh. At 80hrs complained to workshop manager. He could come out right away or wait for 100hr service. I said it's not worth coming right out, it can wait a week or so.
Rang and booked the service, manager said a filter change might help, first filter maybe finer gauge. Sounds plausible I said.
Fitter comes a few days later and is only going to grease machine and wax oil boom, I said about filter, news to him he said, workshop manager has left company 😡
Another Fitter has been twice, kicked a few tyres but nobody wants to change filter. Fitter has now left company too🤣
I'm beginning to think what a shower of sh!t.

Oh, and then I got billed.

Rapidly changing bodies does not sound like a good show.
