Store lambs sales aren’t far away now thoughts on this dry weather having an effect ?
Couple years ago there were couple of weeks in august they were practically given away when the ground was to dry
Can see a problem with keep on farms this winter caused by the high fert price...they will want to leave any grass till the spring as its going to cost them to much to grow it for cattle etc...already getting a whiff

I was buying hoggs in February off lads that had them on dairy farms and been kicked off before their usual March date they had nowhere for them so they were cashing them in through the stores

Cant see fert situation causing a problem, lamb prices are up which will cover it, most business minded folk have put it on as usual round here, those that havnt may be in for a bit of a struggle🤔

Lamb prices up?? What on 2 years ago but certainly not on 12 months ago and in fact for many weeks spring lambs this year were making £10/20 head less than 12 months ago!

I agree about the fert and you may get away with not putting it on for one year if you have large forage carryovers etc but when that is gone then farms will have no choice but to buy the fert or drastically reduce stock numbers.

Heard of one large lamb finisher doing several thousand lambs averaged less than 50 pence head net profit across the lot last winter, do not think they are doing any this year!

Tbh I think fertiliser prices will crash at some point in the next 18 months as no one’s really buying it! But did hear that several farms are considering destocking this autumn to reduce risk this winter with high input costs being predicted

What are people hearing on cattle prices for next week?

Still being offered £4/kg for culls and £5.10/kg for clean Organic at Cardington. Price seems to be fairly static...
