Rep just been on phone saying Cheshire closing hasn’t helped supply worries so no real sign of a drop yet
Father always said fert was based on wheat prices

The more that havnt ferted and have to de-stock the better....it can only help those of us that want to farm.

Wheat prices have fallen back 20% off the top.

Well it fits for us. If you can afford to rest it for that long then you have to make the profit per acre up another way.

I’m not having a go mr touchy. We aim to have them off by first of may. Doesn’t always happen but they eat bottom out and if it comes dry we are struggling to get a decent crop or you cut later but then less aftermath for weaned lambs.

If i could rewind two months i wouldnt of bulled the cows tbh and would of got them fit to kill in october and then wintered the calves cheap to summer next year instead of selling them. If corns £300+/t i think fert will be even dearer next year than this year . Either beef needs to hit £5/kg before the autumn sales or the war needs to end otherwise we are in for a winter of pain.

Just been bid £228t as available barley ,plenty of buying
opportunity for beef farmers.

Mower turned up to dry to mow so will mow right infront of chopper , grass is so brittle its cracking under foot , nightmare. .

The boss sold the store cattle on Tuesday. All from one farm south of Edinburgh.

Sorry didn’t mean to be Arsey. It’s always a juggling act, they are fairly understocked when turned out mid April so not overgrazed. Our clay doesn’t warm up early so we need 3-4 weeks with sheep on it really to make it worth bothering.

Feed for lambs aside do people find pushing them earlier a more profitable system or do the stragglers bring it down later on. Vet med must be less.
