My concern would be the index 4 fields. Yes we all think that’s good and I agree it is but in the environment agency eyes they are starting to say you cannot speed slurry on those fields so when you do your nutrient management plans etc you suddenly find you do not have enough land to spread...
My thoughts as well. Guided at a price to sell but the vendors have their eyes on another farm so will need theirs to move reasonably quickly to be able to complete what they are wanting to do.
Nearly everyone has mentioned the dreaded footpaths and dog walkers but no one has mentioned the farm dog. They can be even worse at spreading this disease especially when younger. Also the local hunt kennels who collect dead stock and use as feed for the dogs are also a source.

What @Farmer Keith forgets to mention is that he farms on the biggest sand castle known to man and tells you how good spring is but then normally goes very quiet for some reason around mid June until mid August only to then tell us how his cows stay out most of the autumn even in a wet autumn. 😉😂
Is the cow muck consistent. Does it go from a normal stiffness to loose then back again over a few days or just stay the same consistency as that is a good tell tale sign if SARA.
Also can you quietly watch the cows on an evening when they are not being disturbed, preferably without them...
But that fresh milk is not whole milk more it is skimmed or semi skimmed which then leaves the cream element as a tradable product which unfortunately the price of which will follow world markets which still leaves us open to the influences of those markets.
What no one mentions is that we are in a world market and even if the U.K. dropped production we would still be in the boom and bust cycle. The U.K. does produce some products that are traded world wide and exposed to those prices but our own market is also open to competition from imported milk...
