Turnover vanity profit sanity….what a load of tosh

To improve “profit” from what you produce you must either cut costs or sell at a premium over the norm. Don’t follow what everyone else is doing. So I converted to organic. Malting barley this year enjoys a healthy premium over conventional with no synthetic fert nor sprays hence my costs are...

    Number of tractors

Have "evolved" to 4 tractors and 2 loaders covering 1100 acre arable and grass, some 2/3rds organic. Ford 3000 was used for slurry scraping and collecting dairy cows for milking. Stopped dairying over 2oyrs ago tractor currently residing in shed gathering dust. JD 7800 bought 2nd hand in...

    "Inconsiderate" Neighbours

Have tried in the past, but their "cup is full" so to speak. They have their opinions, facts nor reason nor respect will influence them. Why should I continue to show them courtesy or respect when little is shown to my family or property?

    "Inconsiderate" Neighbours

Apparently my late father in law was known to collect moles and "release" them in folks gardens.

    "Inconsiderate" Neighbours

Sounds a bit overkill for some grass clippings but probably more satisfying than telling them to "shoo"!

    "Inconsiderate" Neighbours

    "Inconsiderate" Neighbours

Grass clippings returned this morning. Off to have a cup of tea. The Livery, who's horses are in our field beside the dumped clippings has already said thank you as she thought she was going to have to remove them.

    "Inconsiderate" Neighbours

Have some elderly neighbours who have dumped their grass cuttings on the grass verge at the end of our farm road but still just on council property, I assume to make some point. They have a history of moving my fences instead of cutting their hedges, objecting to planning applications and making...

Is there any way we can farm in the UK without subsidies?

I was going to add; look where that has brought us. That's why we need to think differently

Is there any way we can farm in the UK without subsidies?

Subsidies or not, we have the same options as before available to us as farmers. We continue to become "more efficient" and/or bigger to reduce our costs per Ha as we have been encouraged to do for years. We can diversify our businesses or take other employment off farm reducing our reliance...

BPS removal, HOW will you replace yours??

Farming north of Stonehaven, we made decisions several years ago on how we "farm" or should I say gradually evolve our farming operation. It's still work in progress and requires a different mindset to what we were taught in college or brought up with. Especially with the hike in machinery and...

    Guidance on retrofit guidance systems.

Currently top of my list, following recommendations from brother in law (large arable farmer) and local independent agri mechanic is a Trimble unit. So will catch up with local rep hopefully this week or next.

    Guidance on retrofit guidance systems.

Thank you for the input, I'm wiser but no less confused. Am currently looking at several of the systems and trying to compare them.

    Guidance on retrofit guidance systems.

Am being advised CHCNAV over FJ which is similar to the sveaverken if using the free egnos signal. Has anyone experience of using the CHCNAV?
