Prices seem a bit stagnant here at the moment with resistance to increases. Probably because it's so wet and people are thinking that they may as well grade some potatoes instead. Hopefully it may pick up when people get back on the land.
Unfortunately ours looked great for most of the season but went quite badly flat (though round here it was an exceptionally bad year for lodging) so we haven't grown any this time around. It still yielded reasonably (bushel weight low as expected) so could still suit some situations though.
Does anyone know where we might be able to order some certified Genghis / Futura spring bean seed at all? Tried our usual outlets but it seems everyone just has Lynx. Seems a bit pointless the PGRO producing an extensive recommended / descriptive list if none of them are actually commercially...
Sounds about right. Was told directly by a local farmer yesterday that he was getting £240 ex-farm for decent quality Sagitta, 25kgs bagged for chip shop trade (down from £250 a fortnight ago).
Yep, we had the seed dressers in dressing Parkin yesterday. Short, stiff, stands well, very early and yield on a par with Graham, Exstase etc. Our main variety (and our neighbours' too). Average on disease but no dramatic weaknesses. Only failed to make the recommended list as it's yield...
The guy I spoke to said they would be continuing with the Besson franchise "as normal" as he didn't think it would interfere greatly with the franchises they have just inherited (via Ben Burgess) but he was a storeman not a salesman so I don't know for certain. He did say that they would no...
I was told by the store man at Doubleday (now Ben Burgess) Holbeach a month or so ago that they would be carrying on supplying and stocking Besson (but not Sulky).
We had the same. We will run out of stickers at the end of this week. Called last Monday morning (15th) and they said yes, no problem, will get some in the post straight away first class". Hadn't arrived by Thursday post so called again "some should have been sent. I'll get another set printed...
Had to look this variety up, on paper it looks very useful with a really high yield and good agronomics (though not exceptionally early at +1 in comparison to Graham at -1 and Grafton / Parkin at -2) Is it a new variety? I can't seem to find it on the AHDB sowing list.
Just for reference we grow both Parkin and Graham. Parkin has been noticeably earlier. Also much shorter and easier to combine. It suits our farm. Nothing wrong with Graham though, we grow it on the less fertile soils. In a late harvest particularly we find an earliness a very useful...
It apparently failed to find a place on the list as it wasn't deemed a significant improvement in terms of yield on other varieties on the list but we have grown it for the last 3 years and it has performed exceptionally well (both yield wise and agronomically). It is particularly useful for us...
You may still just about be able to get Grafton but if not KWS Parkin would be the direct replacement variety. If you are looking for early harvest with short, stiff, straw it is the one to choose.
