Spring barley or wheat for wholecrop silage?

Yes fair point, we normally order our spring triticale seed in February to make sure we get it. Still a fairly uncommon crop over here.

Spring barley or wheat for wholecrop silage?

Triticale a good option. Plenty of bulk and starch up in the high 20s. We grow it on late ground, usually sown end of April, harvested first week of September.

    Workwear trouser recommendations?

Snickers slim leg work trouser for me are excellent. 2 pairs have lasted over 2 years and all they've needed is the zip changed. I wear them 6 days a week. Nice and light and airy. Not a big fan of the extra pockets at the hip for tradesmen but I discovered on their website you can buy them...

    Tru-Test 250kg suspension weigh cell

I tried that already but unfortunately did not work. The wires are very fine. Quite tricky to crimp connect without doing damage.

    Tru-Test 250kg suspension weigh cell

The cable for the suspension weigh cell on our sheep weigh crate got damaged recently. I contact Datamars the find out if the cable can be repaired but unfortunately that does not appear to be possible. Anyone got a source for a well priced replacement? Been quoted £120 ex VAT for like for...

    Recycled Brown Bin Compost.

Most of what is available in N. Ireland comes from a certain large recycling company in the Belfast area to my knowledge. Id get a reference off another farmer first and maybe go and see the product in person before committing to taking some. We used to take it in. Sometimes the loads were...

    Waxoiling a new fert spreader?

Our vicon sower is washed and oiled after every outing. Takes time but the sower is into its fourth season and still in excellent condition.

Yeh I always try to take that approach with regulators. I dont think losing tempers gets you anywhere. It just baffles me why they didn't come to our farm yard first to speak to someone before tramping off across the fields. That's a recipe for getting people's backs up.

There's genuinely nothing to see so told them to go check the watercourse and head on. I was in a rush to be somewhere more important. Jobs worths.

Any of you folks know what the law is in terms of NIEA coming onto the farm without permission? Met 2 of them out on the farm today. One of them said they were out walking the other day (on the next block of land over) and saw us spreading slurry, so they just wanted to come for a look around...
