Looked at it seriously this year for a new shed but went with normal pedestals as its best suited to deep grain (ours is only 4m) It was going to add a significant cost, the 200mm soil pipe is multiple times more than the standard 110mm, plus the hassle of working around the pipe and outlets...
Into year 4 of mid tier Ab15 here, ie now got the second crop planted Sept 21 coming into its first spring.
My experience is top towards end of May as any black grass flowers and most of that and the wheat/barley volunteers will not re-grow. Wheat topped then and no fertiliser will not come...
In 2017 I drilled Prilled urea at 10kg/ha mixed together with OSR at 6kg/ha in single hopper Claydon., no sign of any damage but no sign that it promoted growth compared to a part field with no Urea.
Maybe wasn't high enough rate, but it was a Hutchinson's suggestion at the time.
Agree, it was particularly cold in the west oxon Cotswolds too, hell of a frost again and less sun today and had left large amount of hair on the barber's floor on Tuesday so that could be a factor too !
ie No seed treatment. Disease levels present do not require it, and will make it easier to keep seed to next autumn if required. Skyfall may be a better bet than imported spring wheat at £500/ton ?
£367/t for half ton of planet to grow on, rest home saved
£367/t for elyann s.oats
£360/t for skyfall no spd to drill up to early March, if no more ww gets drilled before. If it's not used will go back to merchant for autumn 20.
0% cereals/beans, Osr will be written off - unchartered territory here, so worse than 2007,8 or 12
191mm from 23rd Sept to 15th Oct, not much in last week but only 4 dry days in last month so no drilling done around here, will give it a try tomorrow and see how bad it looks.
